Course Description

This course is a continuation of the topics studied in Algebra I. It will extend the development of the real number system and will include a study of the complex numbers as a mathematical system. Students will study the ideas of relations and functions and expand the concepts of quadratic, square root, cubic, cube root, exponential, logarithmic, absolute value, and rational functions. This includes solving equations and inequalities related to these functions. Emphasis will also be placed on the development of additional problem solving skills and applications. The level of instruction/curriculum will focus on preparing the student for advanced placement mathematics courses.

Grading System

Major Grades
70% Tests/Exams (excluding final exams)
Minor Grades
25% Daily Work,Quizzes
Homework
5% Assignments, Homework

Late Work Procedures

A homework assignment will receive a grade of 75 if late.Students must complete late homework assignments prior to each unit test. It is the student’s responsibility to turn-in/show the teacher any late work.

Re-Test/Grade Repair Procedures

A student who earns a grade lower than 75 on a test (excluding final exams) will be afforded the opportunity to retake the test and earn up to a maximum grade of 75 on that test.

Calendar/Lesson Plans/ Class Policies

Lesson plans are posted on Schoology at the beginning of each nine weeks. Lesson plans are subject to change throughout the nine weeks. Students will be told of changes in class.

Textbook/Resource Information

The course uses the Pearson Texas Algebra II online book. The textbook and resources will be available after students’ receive their access codes.

Student Absence Procedure/Missed Tests & Quizzes

As stated in the Student Handbook, students are expected to make-up assignments and testsin the same number of days they were absent. Make-up work not completed in the scheduled time will result in “0’s” on those assignments.

Students should make up tests as soon as possible to maximize performance. If a unit quiz is missed (due to an absence, a school activity, etc.), the grade from the unit test covering the material may be used as the quiz grade.

A time to make-up a missed test should be scheduled with your teacher.

Test Days

Standard test days are Tuesdays and Fridays. Tests are allowed on different days with principal approval.

Final Exam Exemption Information

Final exam exemption information can be found in the Student Handbook.

Supplies

Each student should bring paper and a pencil to class. Once PC tablets are distributed, the student should bring it and the charger each day.

Tutoring Times

*The syllabus is subject to change throughout the school year. Students will be informed of the changes and the revised syllabus will be posted on Schoology.
