Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Physical Sciences

PRAXIS II Specialty Area Exams

·  Biology: Content Knowledge (computer test code #5235)*

Or

·  Chemistry: Content Knowledge (computer test code #5245)*

Or

·  Physics: Content Knowledge (computer test code #5265)*

*These tests should be taken at the beginning of the spring student teaching semester.

PRAXIS II Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT)

·  Principles of Learning and Teaching (computer test code #5624). It is recommended that this test be taken after the completion of the Education Psychology, EDF 3020 course.

Register for these exams at the following website: www.ets.org/praxis. All Praxis Tests are now computer delivered tests. Tests must be taken at Prometric Testing Centers or any site specified by Education Testing Services (ETS).

You must request that all test scores be sent to both Clemson University (code 5111) and to the South Carolina State Department of Education (code 8108). This is not done automatically.

When registering for the Praxis II exam(s) and the PLT, you must enter your social security number. If you do not fill in a social security number on your registration form, your score will not be entered in the database at the SC State Department of Education or at Clemson University.

For Graduation: You must have taken (not necessarily have passed) the above exams and all the test scores must be on file with the Office of Field Experiences 100 Tillman Hall. Tests must be taken no later than the March testing date for May graduation.

For Licensure: You must have passed the Specialty Area exam listed above and the PLT. It is your responsibility to verify that test scores are on file with the Office of Field Experiences in 100 Tillman Hall.

Special Note: Please see page 2 (or reverse on print version of this document) for procedures to add General Science to your teaching license.

Adding General Science to Your Teaching License

A candidate can receive add-on licensure in general science (license to teach all science subjects) at the time of initial licensure by transcript review only or at any subsequent time by presenting an acceptable score on the general science Praxis II exam, General Science: Content Knowledge (computer test code #5435) with a passing score of 150.

Transcript Review Procedure to Add General Science at Initial Licensure

The candidate will submit a South Carolina State Department of Education Request for Change Action Form to the Office of Field Experiences to be included with the School of Education’s recommendation for the candidate’s teaching license. The Request for Change Action form will request the State Department of Education to review the candidate’s transcript to add General Science to his/her teaching license.

The course requirements to add general science to a teaching license (from a candidate’s transcript review) are shown below.
