Practice for Chapter 5
Follow the instructions below. After you are finished, save your file. Then, download the finished sample included in the website practice page, and compare the finished sample with what you did.
- Create a folder, and name it Chapter 5 Practice
- Download the "balloon.wav" sound file linked to on the same page where you got this file. Place the sound file in the Chapter 5 Practice folder.
- Open PowerPoint 2016
- Choose to open a BLANK presentation
- In the HOME tab, in the SLIDES group, click on Layout, and choose BLANK
- Right-click on the background; in the "Format Background" pane, choose a solid background color.
- Create a new slide; set a background for that slide also, this time choose any Texture from the "Picture or Texture Fill" option.
- Create a third slide. Leave the background white.
- Select each of the three slides in turn, and, on each slide, in the "Transitions" tab in the Ribbon, choose a transition. In addition to the transitions in the first row, you can click on the "More" button at the right of the transitions to see several more rows of transitions.
- Select a sound effect for each of the three transitions. To set a sound effect, go to the far right side of the Transitions tab in the Ribbon, and select something under the "Sound" option.
- Go to the third slide.
- Go to the "Insert" tab, and in the "Shapes" menu, choose a "Smiley Face" shape;
- Create the shape on the left side of the slide;
- Control-click-and-drag the shape to the right, creating a copy of the face;
- Change the second face's fill color to pink;
- Create a "Heart" shape between them, and give it a red fill;
- Go to the "Animations" tab in the Ribbon, and in the "Advanced Animations" area to the right, click on the "Animation Pane" button so that the right-hand Animation Pane appears;
- Click on the left (blue) smiley face;
- In the Animation tab, in the Advanced Animations group, choose the "Fly In" Entrance effect so that the animation appears in the Animation Pane;
- In the Animation group, click on the "Effect Options" button, and choose "From left" for the direction;
- In the animation sidebar, double-click on the "Smiley Face" animation listing;
- In the dialog box that appears, go to the "Sound" menu and choose "laser," then click "OK";
- Now, click on the Pink Smiley Face, and do the following: add a "Fly In" Entrance animation, change the Direction to "From Right," and add a Sound Effect ("Cash Register");
- Now, click on the Red Heart, and do the following: add a "Spiral In" Entrance animation (you will need to go to "More Entrance Effects" to find the "Spiral In"), and add a Sound Effect ("Chime");
- Click on the Blue Smiley Face, and add an "Emphasis" animation—CAUTION: you must use the Add Animation button from the Advanced Animation group, and not the plain "Animation" group on the left. When you add the Emphasis animation, choose the "Grow/Shrink" effect, and under "Effect Options," choose "Huge";
- Click on the Pink Smiley Face, and using the Add Animation button, choose an "Exit" animation; select the "Bounce" effect, and in the "Timing" group in the ribbon, set the Duration to 1 second;
- Click on the Red Heart, and using the Add Animation button, choose the "Motion path" animation named "Custom Path"; draw a wild scribble all across the slide, ending at the bottom (double-click to end the path);
- Add a sound effect to the custom path, but this time choose "Other Sound…" at the bottom of the menu; then select the "balloon.wav" sound that you downloaded for this practice.
- With the Red Heart still selected, use the Add Animation button to choose the Emphasis effect "Grow/Shrink";
- In the Animations Pane, click on the last animation, the Emphasis effect for the Heart shape;
- In the Animation tab, in the "Animation" group, click on the "Effect Options" button, and in the "Amount" section, choose "Tiny";
- With the Red Heart again selected, use the Add Animation button to choose the Emphasis effect "Spin";
- In the Animations Pane, click on the last TWO animations, the Emphasis effects for the Heart shape; then, in the Ribbon, in the Animations tab, under Timing, change the "Start" setting to "With Previous."
- Click on the "Play" button in the Animation Pane to test your animations.
Save the slideshow. Then download the finished example, and compare with what you created.
