PowerPoint Template & Instructions for Presenters & BUCLs

Presenter Power Point Presentations (PPTs) are due onMonday, Nov. 3 to your Business Unit Conference Liaison (BUCL), see #4 below.

NEW this Year: For 2014 - All PPT files must be saved in .PPT, NOT PPTX. Go to “SAVE AS TYPE” and click on it to get the drop down box. Thenselect “POWERPOINT 97-2003 PRESENTATION (*.PPT).”

NEW this Year: New Data Governance policies may impact some types of information being presented at the conference. Specifically, if you are publicly sharing information based on data pulled from an FSA data system, then new policies require that it be reviewed for accuracy and for the Data Governance Board to approve it for release. All requests for data should be sent to .Please contact Greg Fortelny at 202-377-4681 with questions.

  1. PPT Template: The template and instructions are two separate files and should come to you under one email. These files are also on the staff website.Also, the file name you are to use is listed below under #8.
  1. ED Staff Presenters:

All U.S. Department of Education (ED) staff who are presenting at the 2014 FSATC mustuse the attached PPT template and these instructions.

ED & Non-ED Staff Presenters:

If you are co-presenting with an ED staff member, please use the FSATC PPT template.

Non-ED Staff Presenters:

Presenters from other federal agencies have the option to use the FSATC PPT template or their own.

Note: To ensure system compatibility, thePowerPoint software version must be Microsoft Office 2010 or earlier.

  1. FOR BUCLs ONLY (NOT Presenters): PPTs are due to the FSA Conference Sessions Submissions mailbox on Monday, Nov. 10. BUCLs will review presentations for PII, ensure any data shown went through the Data Governance Board, obtain management approval, and submit them to the mailbox listed above.

  1. PPT Helpful Hints for Presenters

General Hints:

  • The conference template contains 3 slides, a Master title slide, a content title slide, and a Questions slide. Duplicate the content slide by selecting it and click on Duplicate Selected Side under New Slides
  • The fonts are pre-set using industry standards. We recommend you do not alter them
  • The Master title slide does not have a page number but content slides do. Please ensure your slides are numbered
  • The FSA logo should always be visible especially when importing screen shots

Helpful Hints - Master Title Slide Specifics:Leave color and font sizesas they are set.

  • Step 1: Click on the text box Session to open it. With a space after the word Session, type in your session number without using the “#” symbol. For example: Session 1
  • Step 2: Click on the text box Click to edit Master title to open it. Delete the words Click to edit Master title and then type in your session title
  • Step 3: Click on the text box Presenter Name to open it. Delete the words Presenter Name and then type in the presenter name(s). If more than one name, place one name after the other, alphabetized by last name. For example: Joe Aiello, Debra Byrne, and Chris Farr

Helpful Hints - Content Title Slide Specifics: Leave color or font sizes as they are set.

  • Step 1: Click on the text box Title to open it. Delete the word Title and then type in a title for that slide
  • Step 2: Click on the text box Click to add text to open it. One text box is font size 24 and the other is 20
  • Step 3: Type in your information. You can center or expand your title headline and text boxes as desired
  • Step 4: Add as many slides as you need, under 40 is preferred.
  1. Other Useful Information:
  • If all of your information is not available to include in your PPT before deadline, create an outline of talking points or add a placeholder stating that updated information will be given during the presentation. After the conference, you will have an opportunity to submit a final presentation for posting
  • Presentations will be 1 hour long and 15 minutes for Q&A for a total of 1:15 per session
  • Ensure there is not Personal Identifiable Information
  • Remove speaker notes
  1. PPT File Names for Presenters: All file names should match your session number and title. Pleasefind your file name below and use it at all times even if you revise your PPT. This will be your file name even with revisions!
