Tai Chi Chuan Resources

About Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung

Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung are forms of exercise with roots in China’s ancient meditational, healing and martial traditions. They are called internal arts because much of the exercise does not appear visible to the casual observer. As with icebergs, a lot is going on below the surface. Tai chi chuan and chi kung integrate relaxation, meditation, breathing and postural techniques which help develop balance through performing harmonious movements. The full system can include individual exercises, flowing sequences, or forms (both open handed and with various weapons), partner work and meditation. They are commonly practised for stress relief, good health, meditation, or as martial arts, or any combination of these.

Health Benefits of Tai Chi and Chi Kung

The emphasis on developing and harmonising internal structure, circulation and energy rather than muscular force makes these arts suitable for practise by people of all ages, types and abilities, including those who may be unable to participate in other activities. The exercises can be adapted to suit a wide range ofabilities and needs.Further information about learning to use tai chi chuan and chi kung in this way is available from The Tai Chi and Chi Kung Forum for Health

ProFaNE – Prevention of Falls Network Earth

From 2003-2007, this was an EC funded Thematic Network of Researchers interested in falls prevention. In that time, over 4000 people became members. From 2007-2010 the website continued to exist with help from the British Geriatrics Society and Help The Aged. In 2012, the old website a static site and the new over. This site is aimed much more at practitioners and has an annual subscription cost of only £12 a year. Once you have joined, there is an interactive discussion board (community online) and a profile section (a bit like facebook) for you to get in touch with other registered members. There are about 10 newsletters a year which focus on tips, hints and useful resources for practitioners in falls prevention services.

Falls Directory – Listings of PSI Instructors and OEP Leaders

The Falls Directory is a FREE listing for all qualified PSIs and OEP Leaders. The directory can be searched by older people, service commissioners, falls services and other exercise leaders to find suitably qualified falls prevention exercise instructors/leaders. Once you have qualified you will receive a letter asking if you DO NOT want to be listed on this service, which is otherwise automatic. If you know someone who is NOT registered on here, please let them know to get in touch with LLT and we will get them online.
