Postpartum Doula Position Opening at Birthways
Would you like to join a vibrant and growing agency devoted to women’s health in the child-bearing year?
Birthways provides a wide range of services to families, including labor support, postpartum doula care, childbirth preparation, private consultations, parenting groups and special support for women experiencing perinatal mood disorders.
Birthways is hiring seasoned postpartum doulas, especially those with hands-on experience with newborns, multiples, and mothers with perinatal mood disorders. A full- or part-time position can be built within the organization.
Our service area includes the Chicago Metropolitan area and our offices are located in Chicago, in the Lakeview neighborhood.
Postpartum Doula
Postpartum doula providers support women in their homes after they have given birth or after adoption, sometimes providing antenatal support for women on bedrest, and also being available to support families in special circumstances, such as upon hospital discharge for mothers or their infants, working with women with postpartum mood disorders, and with pregnant and parenting teens.
Postpartum support involves providing guidance and affirmation to new parents, many of whom have lots of questions about their newborn(s) and their own well-being. For most families, breastfeeding support is a critical component of our services. We work within a holistic model of care, providing emotional and practical support including help with the baby or siblings, nice meal preparation, running errands, and help with laundry. Core training and ongoing continuing education are provided.
The work hours are flexible and determined by the doula. The administrative team will seek assignments to match availability. Day or overnight shifts are available.
Salary and Benefits
Rate of pay will be commensurate with experience and the assignment. We reimburse for travel, which is a non-taxed benefit. Training is free, and health, dental, vision, and life insurance are available for full-time staff.

Work Environment
Birthways strives to create a supportive, woman- and family-friendly environment that meets the needs of our community members. We are noted for offering opportunities for learning and professional development that allows for our employees to thrive both personally and professionally. Birthways cultivates and expects a mutually respectful, non-competitive and collaborative attitude within the organization. For professionals who have worked in a variety of settings, Birthways’ culture and community and our holistic, collaborative model of woman-centered care is deeply appreciated.
