Application Form Guidance Notes
Please read the following notes carefully before completing the application form.Please note that all short-listed candidates will be required to attend an interview in Swansea before an offer of a studentship can be made.
All candidates ordinarily enrolling on the degree of PhD will be registered in the first instance as a candidate for MPhil/PhD (Master of Philosophy with the possibility of transfer to Doctor of Philosophy). The decision to transfer a candidate will be dependent upon the successful completion of the transfer process within 12 months of initial registration.

Section 5 EU Applicants
If you are a Non UK/EEA national and will be applying under Tier 4 of the UK Points Based Immigration system, you should not send the original degree certificates at this point as you will need to show these when applying for your student visa. Students from overseas will be required to produce official transcripts of academic records showing detailed marks in courses they have taken.
In addition, you will need to provide us with the passport information stated. This information is required by UK Immigration law and will be included in a Confirmation for Acceptance of Studies (CAS) Letter. We will send this letter to applicants holding an unconditional offer before their start date. Please note that you will not be able to apply for a visa to enter the UK without a CAS. Alternatively please let us know if your visa comes under another category.

Please provide details of three individuals who are willing to provide a references for you. Two of the referees should be able to comment upon your academic ability and suitability for the proposed area of research.
Please do not include any references or testimonials with this application form.
Section 7Criminal Convictions
The University does not wish to debar individuals with criminal convictions from taking advantage of the opportunities provided by higher education. However, the University has to take into account the requirements of various professional bodies and to take reasonable steps to provide as safe an environment as possible for its staff, students and visitors.
You are therefore required to declare any “unspent” convictions, excluding motoring offences for which a fine and/or three penalty points were imposed. You are not required to declare “spent” convictions unless the course to which you are seeking admission falls within the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.
