Vitae Researcher Development Framework

PHASE 2 (Progress)

Name:

Subject Area:

Vitae Research Developer Framework Phase 2

Domain A: Knowledge and intellectual abilities

Domain B: Personal effectiveness

Domain C: Research governance and organisation

Domain D: Engagement, influence and impact

Domains A-D may be mapped on experiences drawn from a wide range of sources which may include conference participation and teaching as well as University, Faculty and Subject workshops and Information Resources sessions.

The three phases are Induction/Progress/Preparing to finish. The marker for Phase 1 is acceptance of a viable research project and ending it is the Confirmation Event which accesses the second phase. The Submission of an Intent to Submit form ends Phase 2 and starts Phase 3 which itself ends with the (successful) oral examination (viva).

‘The phases represent distinct stages of development or level of performance within each descriptor. The RDF (Researcher Development Framework) recognises that individuals will be at different phases of development for different descriptors depending on their experiences and abilities. Relevant phases (selected for their current and aspirational capabilities) are personal to the individual researcher’. (Vitae, 2012)
