The Canadian Network on Hepatitis C (CanHepC) is a collaborative network funded by CIHR and PHAC to establish a continuous pipeline from discovery to implementation to reduce HCV transmission, cure and improve the quality of life of persons infected with HCV, and to work towards the eradication of HCV infection in Canada. CanHepC includes over 80 researchers, trainees and knowledge users from all over Canada as well as a comprehensive training curriculum. The overarching goal of this network is to build research capacity and conduct innovative research and translate evidence for uptake into practice and policy with a focus on HCV prevention, treatment and outcomes. CanHepC is currently seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join its team.

Under the direct supervision of Dr Julie Bruneau, CanHepC epidemiology core leader, the postdoctoral trainee will design, develop and implement a longitudinal study of at-risk and hepatitis C infected persons recruited across Canada and followed-up through administrative and clinical databases. This project is part of a larger research program developed within CanHepC. The candidate will lead the design and build a new project, work in collaboration with national experts. This mentored position offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership and a research program that could lead to an independent research program.

Responsibilities:

The candidate is expected to design, conduct and manage research projects; prepare reports and papers for publication, presentation and future research; contribute to grant writing and is strongly encouraged to write applications for fellowships. Qualifications:

§  Ph.D. in epidemiological, biostatistics, or other relevant area, or equivalent. At least two first author, peer-reviewed, primary data, English publications where the candidate drafted the vast majority of the first draft of the paper. Minimum Degree Required: Doctorate

§  Knowledge of the principles and practices of the scientific method and research;

§  Demonstrates skill in formulating and testing hypotheses;

§  Possesses the ability to conduct and manage an epidemiological study; to analyze and summarize data and results;

§  Self-directed with excellent writing, analytical, and research skills

§  Ability to write grants and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;

§  Excellent communication and team work skills

§  Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy

§  Ability to prioritize, multi-task and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment, and effectively manage urgent and long-term deadlines

§  Excellent ability to work and learn independently with minimal supervision required, as well as collaborate well as part of a larger team

§  Project management experience and/or training an asset

§  Excellent stakeholder relation skills, with a sense of diplomacy

§  Excellent organizational skills and record keeping

STATUS:Full time (35hours/week) one or two year position with the possibility of extension
