1.Job Purpose

  • Assist in the development of Prisoners Abroad's digital communications strategyfor fundraising and awareness raising.
  • Co-ordinate and implement Prisoners Abroad's digital communicationsin the Fundraising and Communications team, including management of the website and its content, writing copy for the website, SEO, social media updates, e-shots, videos, blogs and other online tools.

2.Key Areas of Responsibility

Working with the Individual Giving Manager and the wider fundraising team, you will assist in the development Prisoners Abroad's communications strategy.
Website
- Generating content ideas, you will manage a content planning diary, write, produce and liaise with teams to agree, maintain and develop content on the website ensuring that they are engaging, up-to-date, correctly branded and accessible.
- Use digital marketing tools to increase visitors to Prisoners Abroad's website, such as SEO and Google Analytics.
- Develop a 12 month e-communications programme in line with fundraising objectives

- Establish new ways to encourage people to visit, interact and sign up to the website.
Social Media
- Monitor and update Facebook, Twitter and other appropriate social media channels in line with Prisoners Abroad's communication strategy and key messages, ensuring effective content and copy in order to grow our social media presence
- Ensure all social media activity is linked to the website activity and vice versa
- Develop social media as a tool to raise awareness and funds
- Develop new social media channels to maximise the charities media presence

Analysis and evaluation
- Report monthly on performance of our website and social media channels through statistics and feedback
- Monitor activity and report key findings from Google Analytics, so that amendments and improvements can be made to the site where appropriate
- Research and keep up to date on the latest trends in digital communications
- Make sure Prisoners Abroad has a presence on any current or future social media or digital channels where appropriate
General

  • Participate in the general management of the organisation; including strategic and business planning and policy development.
  • Production of briefing papers and reports as required.
  • Assist with staff and volunteer recruitment where appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality at all times.
  • Represent the organisation externally.
  • Carry out all duties with full regard to Prisoners Abroad's Equal Opportunities Policy.

Digital Communications Officer

ESSENTIAL

Skills & Experience

  • Strong communication skills with excellent verbal and written English
  • Excellent writing skills with experience of writing for the web and engaging online audiences.
  • Proven records of producing excellent copy, especially for websites, social media and email content.
  • Excellent editorial skills
  • Experience of using and interpreting SEO techniques e.g. Google Analytics and social media monitoring tools to analyse performance, inform planning and produce meaningful reports.
  • Proven experience of working with CMS
  • Experience of growing social media followings (in numbers and level of engagement)
  • Experience of working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical and planning skills
  • Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office
  • Ability to work effectively without supervision and co-ordinate with others to enable effective team working
  • Good experience of maintaining efficient administration systems, with attention to detail, proof-reading and grammatical accuracy.
  • Ability to recognise people’s strengths, aspirations and abilities and understand how diversity can improve our ability to deliver better services and reduce disadvantage.

DESIRABLE

- Experience of developing communications with supporters or donors
- Experience of working for a charity or NGO
- Experience of digital/on-line fundraising
- Knowledge of web design and development
- Educated to degree level &/or able to demonstrate relevant qualification or training

Contract 12 months

Salary / £27,052 (NJC scale point 32)
Hours / 35 hours. Time off in lieu will be given for hours worked in excess of this
Leave / 30 days per annum plus Public Holidays
Pension / 6.5% of gross salary paid by Prisoners Abroad into a Personal Scheme
Probation / 6 month probationary period during which time one week’s notice is required both employer and employee
Notice / At the end of a successfully completed probationary period, this post will be subject to three month’s notice by either party
