General Description of Post:

The post is appointed to work within the school/Inclusion Base as part of a team, under the general direction of the Head Teacher who will be responsible for the overall policy of the educational programme and for matters of control and discipline within the appropriate Articles of Government.

Duties:

The TAwill be a member of a team, under the leadership of the Director for Learning - Inclusion. The postholder will, to a level reflected by the grade of the post:-

  • Assist in the support and integration of students with Special/Additional Educational Needs within the mainstream school.
  • To provide direct classroom support for those students who have been identified as having Special/Additional Educational Needs
  • To support the development of suitable programmes for students within faculties, including AEN
  • To provide support to staff regards the nature of appropriate differentiation for students
  • To undertake the role of the key worker for a number of students
  • To work direct with small groups of students or 1:1, where appropriate
  • To maintain consistent records, which indicate the work carried out and the progress made by the named students and to provide regular feedback about the students supported.
  • To participate in the evaluation of support programmes.
  • To work with regard to the SEN Code of Practice
  • To attend relevant In-Service Training Courses and Days.

This role will support the pupil by:

1)Working to establish a supportive relationship with the children and parents concerned.

2) Liaising, where appropriate with external agencies.

3)Encouraging acceptance and inclusion of the child with special needs.

4)Promoting and reinforcing the child’s self esteem.

5) Safeguarding and promoting the well being of children

Support the curriculum leader by:

1)Keep such records of the children’s development as are required by the school.

2)Assisting the teaching staff in the smooth transition between educational phases.

Support the school by:

1)Being aware of schools policies and procedures.

2)Being aware of confidential issues linked to home/pupil/teacher/school work and to keep confidences as appropriate.

3)Any other curriculum duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities/grade of the post as defined, subject to the proviso that normally any changes of a permanent nature shall be incorporated into the job description in specific terms, following consultation with the Recognised Trade Unions.
