Assistant Lecturer / Lecturer in Education

A specialism in one or more of the following areas would be of particular interest:

  • Early Childhood Education
  • Inclusive Education: Educational Disadvantage
  • Inclusive Education: Special Educational Needs

Candidates should have a background in education (early childhood, primary, post-primary and / or further education) and a relevant post-graduate qualification,preferably at doctoral level. Duties associated with the post

The appointee will have responsibilities from among the following:

General Duties

  • Promote the seven guiding principles of the Trustees
  • Maintain communication and co-operation with theassigned Head of Function and all other staff of the Institute
  • Report to the assigned Head of Function on all aspects of anagreed programme of work
  • Contribute actively to the formulation and development of policy within the Institute and the wider education community in Ireland
  • Undertake other duties as required by the President from time to time in accordance with cross-sectoral needs and opportunities of the Institute

Teaching, Learning and Research Responsibilities

  • Engage in lecturing duties (12-15 hours or equivalent per week)
  • Plan, teach, examine and invigilate exams in moduleson undergraduate programmes and /or postgraduate programmesas appropriate
  • Contribute actively to integration with other modules in education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Maintain an active research profile, consonant with the strategic research goals of the Institute
  • Supervise research students
  • Supervise, mentorand advise students on school / work placement and fulfil related duties
  • Be responsible for quality assurance with respect to programmes developed within area of expertise
  • Act as personal tutor to students, as allocated

Contribution to Wider Institute

  • Participate in internal committees within Marino Institute of Education
  • Liaise with relevant external bodies
  • Represent the Institute on external committees as requested by the President
  • Participate in selection procedures for prospective students
  • Contribute to events in the Institute calendar such as Open Day and induction week
