KEY PURPOSE:
  • Lead THCVS development work, providing one to one support and advice, training and written resourcesfor voluntary and community sector organisations in Tower Hamlets
  • Contribute to developing and implementing the THCVS strategy
  • Support and deputise for the CEO
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Provide one to one organisational development support for voluntary and community groups, faith groups and social enterprises on a range of issues, including governance, business plans, funding applications and strategies, marketing strategies and organisational development action plans
  2. Develop excellent working relationships and networks with CVS members, key stakeholders and partners from across the borough
  3. Assess and address the needs of local VCS organisations focusing particularly on small and minority led organisations, including those providing support to BME communities, disabled people, LGBT people and women
  4. Develop the reach and breadth of THCVS membership, promoting the benefits of THCVS membership to the sector and encouraging engagement/participation from groups which have been harder to reach
  5. Keep up to date with the latest developments affecting the voluntary and community sector, and lead by example in promoting best practice
  6. Contribute to the delivery and development of the THCVS training programme, including creating and running training courses on a range of organisational development issues/topics. Develop the reach of training provision for the organisation.
  7. Develop and maintain a bank of online resources (including authoring a number of THCVS guides and articles) to support the effective management of local VCS organisations, including relevant best practice, legislation and up to date reference information on sources of funding.
  8. Produce high quality and accessible information for e-bulletins, newsletters and website updates
  9. Compile, write and send the THCVS Funding and Development bulletin (email and webpage) at least once per quarter
  10. Ensure that monitoring and evaluation of all job activities is carried out in accordance with THCVS, partners and funders requirements, collating information on outputs, and outcomes and completing and submitting reports by the appropriate deadlines.
  11. Assist the Chief Executive in delivering and promoting the LBTH Voluntary Sector Strategyand other strategies and plans
  12. Facilitate and support forum meetings including the VCS Forum, Leadership Forum and Voluntary Sector Premises Forum
  13. Contribute to the planning, delivery and administration of THCVS events including the annual conference and AGM
  14. Contribute to THCVS sustainability by drafting plans and bids and contributing to the development of new income streams to diversify our funding base
  15. Update database with records of clients and members, and contribute to the maintenance and content of the THCVS website
  16. Be responsible for assisting with the purchase of goods, equipment and services, keeping proper financial records and adhering to the CVS financial policies at all times
  17. Assisting the Chief Executive with contracts, partnership and Service Level Agreements, relevant to the scope of the post

General

  1. To deputise for the Chief Executive as required, including sickness and holiday cover
  2. To ensure that all activity is carried out in compliance with and supports the achievements of THCVS’s Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety policies
  3. To work flexibly, including evenings and some weekends, and to undertake any other duties consistent with the post

Experience
/ Required?
Experience of managing staff and volunteers.
Substantial experience of capacity building, ideally including supporting small voluntary and community groups organisations with governance, business planning (including marketing and funding strategies), fundraising, and organisational development.
Demonstrable experience of identifying funders, successfully bidding for funds, and successfully building excellent working relationships with funders, partners and stakeholders.
Demonstrable experience of researching and writing high quality resources, newsletters and website content with minimal additional input/supervision
Experience of monitoring and evaluation of projects, and performance management, maintaining a clear audit trail and reporting back appropriately.
Significant experience of planning and delivering training courses, workshops and events
Experience of working with hard to reach and new communities and communities where English is a second language
Demonstrable experience of working with stakeholders from a range of sectors(i.e statutory and commercial as well as voluntary/community) and building strong networks and working relationships / Essential

Knowledge
Current working knowledge of key areas of organisational management in the voluntary and community sector including planning, project management, finance and budgeting best practice, policies and procedures, staffing, funding streams, governance and Charity legislation.
A good understanding of where to find out about issues and best practice relating to organisational management, and of how to keep that knowledge up to date.
A good understanding of local and political/policyissues affecting the voluntary and community sector in Tower Hamlets
Knowledge and understanding of equalities issues, and demonstrable commitment to applying these in services on a day to day basis.
Knowledge of the forms and structures of governance for voluntary and organisations, including and understanding of Charity and Company law, and an understanding of social enterprise. / Desirable
