Scope

The SHE Team is Inter Terminal’s group SHE and technical consultancy resource, which serves the entire European business. Fundamentally the SHE team’s function is to provide considered, operationally independent advice and support to help company Directors and Managers fulfil their duties with respect to Health, Safety and Environmental protection, in support of the company’s strategic aims.
The Health & Safety Specialist will be an integral member of the SHE Team, contributing to all aspects of the Team’s function, with the following as main areas of responsibility.

Main duties

Duties include, but are not limited to:

1. / Regulatory compliance
–  Support management teams with sound, up to date advice on compliance with health and safety legislation, particularly the Seveso III Directive and associated national regulations.
–  Support management teams with regulatory interventions
– 
2. / Seveso/COMAHSafety Report writing
3. / Management of Change - Provide specialist input and support, including:
–  Advice on safe handling of products
–  Assessment of implications of changes in product, activities, plant, equipment, people and organisation
–  Participation in/leadership of hazard studies, e.g. HAZOP
– 
4. / Due diligence processes
5. / Represent the company and promote best practice on external committees and working groups.
6. / Provide health and safety content for internal conferences and discussion forms.
7. / Promote a strong health and safety culture through campaigns and sharing best practice.
8. / Provide general advice on:
–  Chemicals/product hazards and safe handling;
–  Occupational health and safety
–  Process safety.
9. / Write and develop health and safety policies, practices, procedures and guidance.
10. / Auditing – Plan and carry out health and safety audits and prepare reports.
11. / Monitor, analyse and report on health and safety performance lagging and leading indicators.
12. / Investigate incidents and prepare reports.
13. / Carry out risk assessments including:
–  Major accident risk assessment
–  Occupation health and safety risk assessments
–  Task-based assessments
–  Specialised assessment techniques, e.g. Quantitative Risk Assessment, LOPA, Risk Graph, Fault Tree Analysis

Post requirements

1. / Qualifications / –  Degree qualified, preferably in a chemical, process engineering or related discipline (Essential)
–  Chartered member of professional body e.g. IOSH, IChemE, IIRSM (Desirable)
–  Recognised certificate (NEBOSH or equivalent) in health and safety (Essential)
–  Recognised diploma (NEBOSH or equivalent) in health and safety (Desirable)
2. / Knowledge & experience / –  Minimum of five years, ideally 10+ years of industrial SHE experience, preferably in major hazard sector
–  Experience and understanding of process safety management and Seveso III Directive/ COMAH Regulations (Desirable)
3. / Skill set / –  Competence in a range of safety techniques (Desirable). For example:
–  Risk assessment,
–  Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
–  Occupied Buildings Risk Assessment (OBRA),
–  HAZOP
–  Human factors assessments
–  Consequence analysis
–  High standard of numeracy and literacy (Essential)
–  High level of written and verbal communication skills (Essential)
–  Willingness to travel, with frequent stays away from home, both in the UK and overseas (Essential)
–  Competent IT user (Essential)
–  Current driving licence (Essential)
