POST CONVENTION S.E.C.

June 28, 2015

The Post Convention SEC was called to order by President Allison at 11:40am.

The invocation was given by Chaplain Sue Christe.

The Colors were presented by Sgt-at-Arms Lenore Uhl.

Roll Call of Officers showed all in attendance with the exception of Sharon Colley and Lois Juchemich – both absent; Jan Hapner and Judy Smith - both excused.

The President asked for any unfinished business from the outgoing Officers.

Ways & Means Chairman Maureen Jackson stated she would not have the final figures for a couple days but felt we did well – even if we didn’t quite meet the budget.

Kathy Schultz suggested contacting the Auxiliaries and ask why they do not attend convention.

The President will present the SOA Commander’s plaque at their SEC meeting in July.

President Allison turned the gavel, and the meeting, over to the incoming President Faye Richardson-Green.

Gaveliers President Peggy Liss presented President Faye with her new hat.

Roll Call of new 2015/2016 Officers showed all in attendance with the exception of Grand Rapids Home Rep Sharon Colley – absent, district VII President Lois Juchemich – absent, Jacobetti Rep. Judy Smith – excused.

President Faye presented her recommendations for the 2015/16 appointed Officers:

Parliamentarian - PDP Pat Michalski (Aux. #22)

Ways and Means – Sue Hennigar (Aux. #57)

PRO/Historian – Leora Williamson (Aux. #23)

Personnel Chairman – PNP/PDP Janice Hapner (Kathy Biela will stand in for her at this Post SEC meeting)

Fall Conference and Convention Chairman – PDP Kathy Keizer

**Motion Peggy Liss/2nd Allison Aldrich to approve the President’s appointments.

At this time PDP Nancy Middleton installed the appointments into office.

President Faye requested approval of the following appointments:

Grievance Committee:

PDP Clarice Poisson, Chairman (Dist. V) / PDP Carol Pickett (Dist. II) / District VI President Erica Szegda

Appeals Board:

**Motion Kathy Keizer/2nd Peggy Liss to approve the committee appointments of the President to the Grievance Committee, Appeals Board and the Bylaw Committee. CARRIED

The Americanism Committee will be taken care of at a later date after recommendations by Americanism Officer Carol Orlowski have been received.

President Faye is also setting up a special committee to review Officer’s Instructions. The President requests approval of the following:

President Faye has requested the approval of PDP Nancy Blok as the Battle Creek VAMC Representative.

New Officer’s Themes/contests/special programs or Chairman’s Awards:

1st Vice Seletha Robertson will encourage membership meetings throughout the State. She recommends speakers and finding out what people want from their membership. She has several contests she would like to do.

#1 Individual Early Bird drawing from those renewed by October 31

#2 100% Auxiliary renewed by October 31

#3 Renew yourself plus 1 new member by 12/31

#4 Award to Districts 100% renewed by 12/31

**Motion Seletha Robertson/2nd Kathy Keizer to approve the membership contests. CARRIED

Ways and Means Chairman Susan Hennigar requested permission to leave. Maureen Jackson will give her requests for projects. (request to leave granted)

2nd Vice President Wendy Lynema is using the theme “Help Them Bloom”. She has the tour of Penrickton scheduled for Saturday, September 19 at 1pm. She will be putting this on the web and in the newsletter.

For Wendy’s Chairman’s Award, she requested

#1 Post with the most money donated to Penrickton by 4/30 (donation must go through the Department records).

#2 Cut out paper flowers and sell them at your Post (members sign them and hang them up to show their support) The donations are sent in to the Department. The Auxiliary selling the most flowers will win a prize.

**Motion Wendy Lynema/2nd Leora Williamson to approve Wendy’s two Chairman’s awards. CARRIED

3rd Vice President Kathy Schultz will use the theme “Service with a Purpose”. She would like to continue the Paws Prints project that was done last year (Note: Paw prints sold at the Posts).

Kathy does not have a Chairman’s Award at this time.

Chaplain Lee Williamson wants to remind everyone to keep in touch with her and inform her of illness, etc. She also wants everyone to remember the Sunshine Fund and will send out information on it.

Hospital Officer Harriet Biela does not have a theme or award at this time. She just decided to run for this office last night and really did not have time to prepare something. She will have it ready by Fall Conference.

Scholarship Officer Sally Abshire would like to promote the Forbidden Word Game for Auxiliary meetings. A word is drawn at the start of a meeting and if someone says that word, they pay a fine. All funds collected go to Scholarship.

Americanism Officer Carol Orlowski has a couple ideas but since she decided to run for the office just a day ago, she is not quite prepared to give details. She will bring her ideas to Fall Conference.

Ways and Means / Maureen Jackson for Sue Hennigar: There were several fundraising projects in mind for Ways and Means.

#1 sale of the Auxiliary Manual. The cost will be $9 for pre-orders and $12 for on site sales. Will be available at Fall Conference. They will be in binders.

#2 2015/2016 year book. Information will be out early this year. The deadline

for the book will be March 1st.

#3 Cash Blast raffle. The first drawing will be at Fall Conference. Tickets are $10 each. There will be a drawing every day for 30 days. Daily winners get $20, Sunday winners get $50 and the last day winner gets $400.

#4 Quarter Auction.

#5 Convention Raffle (prizes not determined yet).

The President announced her theme for the year “You Make A Difference”. Nancy Middleton and Kathy Keizer attempted to hang up a big vinyl banner with the President’s theme on it. (They need more practice to learn how to hang a banner).

President Faye is looking for opportunities to highlight local Auxiliary activities / outcomes. She would like to be informed about what the Auxiliaries are doing in the Department of Michigan.

Announcements:

Fall SEC – Friday, October 2, 1015 6:30pm – Big Rapids

Fall Conference – Saturday & Sunday, October 3rd and 4th - Big Rapids

National Aux. Freedom’s Foundation weekend – October 9-11 2015 – Pennsylvania

Auxiliary Retreat (for all members) October 30, 31, Nov. 1 – Higgins Lake Lodge

Spring SEC - date and time to be announced

The District Presidents were asked to contact the president to schedule visits as soon as possible.

President Faye reminded all Officers to please read your instructions. The Parliamentarian will follow up to see if you have any questions.

Officers can submit monthly articles for the Newsletter and Department bulletins as required.

Additional Business:

Maureen Jackson announced Post #57 will have their PAWS silent auction on November 7th. The cost is $12. There will be raffles, 50/50’s, food, etc.

The President, Parliamentarian and Secretary will get together to set a date for the Officer’s Instruction Review meeting.

Seletha Robertson was asked if life members are included in her drawing. After much discussion it was decided that life members do not contribute to the membership contest fund so they would get a certificate.

**Motion Seletha Robertson/2nd Allison Aldrich if life members submit a new member, they will get a certificate and the new member will be in the drawing (same as if a regular member signed them up). CARRIED

**Motion Lenore Uhl/2nd Linda Marshall to adjourn the meeting. CARRIED

The benediction was delivered by Chaplain Leora Williamson.

The Flag was retired by Sgt-at-Arms Lenore Uhl.

The meeting was adjourned by President Faye at 1:30pm.
