Dear Classmate:

As you may be aware, planning for our 45th Reunion is well underway and things are really beginning to take shape. You may have also heard that the Class of 64 40th had the largest reunion attendance ever (any reunion, any year). Please help us break the record again at the 45th. This letter, the first in a series of at least three (September 08, January 09 and July 09), is to provide planning information including advance hotel registration. January’s letter will update the schedule, request updates for the Electronic Yearbook, and provide registration instructions along with the request for registration and full payment by the end of March. Anyone who cancels before 1 August will get a prompt refund of their full payment. For cancellations after that date, we reserve the right to hold onto the deposit until after the Reunion books close to ensure we can cover committed costs.

The overwhelmingly positive response to 40th Reunion guided us to essentially replicate the 40th process and schedule with major changes being: (1) late game start, thereby impacting Company Event planning, (2) inserting the new Westin Hotel on West Street vice Loews, (3) addition of a third, less expensive hotel, the Doubletree off Riva Road, (4) holding the business meeting and brunch/lunch at a venue other than Alumni and King Halls, (5) Electronic Yearbook hosted on the USNA 64 Website, vice a hard copy book, and (6) memorial emphasis on the past five years vice the entire 45 years. Also, the success of the Company Representative system used for the 40th Reunion, coupled with online registration through the Alumni Association, and information exchange via the USNA 64 website re-affirmed our approach to using email and electronic information exchange as our primary communications mode vice paper and US Mail.

The 45th Reunion will take place in Annapolis, Thursday, 22 October – Sunday, 25 October 2009, which is also Homecoming weekend (football opponent is Wake Forest with game starting at 1530). The Reunion Committee’s goal of making registration for the 45th no more expensive than the 40th has been realized so far.

Again, since there are no hotels large enough to take our whole class, we have booked room blocks in three hotels: Westin Annapolis (140 rooms), Waterfront Marriott (140 rooms) and Doubletree off Riva Road (50+ rooms). RESERVE EARLY (all three hotels will accept registrations beginning 26 September 2008) if you want a hotel room! For your convenience we have appended a list of 17 other hotels or inns in the Annapolis area.

Schedule of Reunion events:

§ Check-in will take place at the Marriott Thursday 1000 –1800. You can also register Friday 1000 –1800.

§ A No-Host Reception (heavy hors d’ouvres) will be held at the Marriott on Thursday evening at 1800.

§ The Dinner Dance will be at the Westin on FRIDAY evening. Cocktails at 1830, dinner at 2000.

§ Saturday will be a busy day with the Tailgate and game (1530 kickoff, versus Wake Forest) coupled with individually scheduled company events on Saturday or some other time during the Reunion.

§ Sunday will feature a Business Meeting and brunch . The meeting will include a small memorial service focused on classmates and spouses fallen in the five years since the 40th Reunion.

§ Shuttle bus service will be provided Thursday afternoon through Sunday between all three hotels (Marriott, Westin and Doubletree) including dinner at Westin on Friday night. Shuttles will also be available to/from the Tailgate and game on Saturday and Sunday to/from the Business Meeting.

We estimate a registration fee for 800 people ($350 couples and $100 singles) CLOSE to the fee for the 40th ($550 per couple and $350 per single). This fee will cover goody bag, No-Host Reception, Dinner Dance, Tailgate, and local shuttle service. In January we will provide schedule updates and request registration and full payment by the end of March to be returned to our P.O. Box (see address at letterhead) or paid by credit card on-line.

Each company is responsible for its own company function, including transportation. Note that the late game start makes Saturday night functions a bit more problematic. Check with your Company Rep for details of your company function and make sure you BOOK A VENUE EARLY to avoid the rush.

Guests will be permitted at the Tailgate -- special nametags will be provided at check-in. To allow us to plan, please indicate number of guests as part of your initial registration and plan on paying a tailgate admission fee as part of the registration process. Final commitment to Tailgates will be requested in July.

Game tickets are also not included in your registration fee. The Committee is trying to ensure that non-season ticket holders are seated in a block in the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Be sure to ask for the Class of 64 block when you buy game tickets (call 800-US4-NAVY or on the web at www.navysports.com). Also, since the Tailgate will be inside the stadium fence (like at the 40th), game tickets will be required for access. Game tickets are NOT included in your registration fee.

We cannot emphasize enough that early hotel and restaurant reservations are necessary. Annapolis will be totally inundated due to Homecoming and Reunions. Please plan to join us in Annapolis in October 2009 for a memorable event -- continue the tradition! Mark your calendars now!
