Post: Business Development Officer

To work with the Head of Business Development and or the Chief Executive of Urban Futures (and the lead Officer of the Haringey Education Business Partnership) to support the development of all business opportunities whether new business, repeat business, or competitively tendered business and including the preparation and development of approaches to business opportunities including the research and development aspects. The post will specifically:

Main Role and Responsibilities

  • Research and develop background and supporting information for the preparation of writing tenders in an economic development background (particularly in relation to employment & skills work)
  • Collate, and where appropriate, disseminate information relevant about Urban Futures (& HEBP) in the preparation of funding bids
  • Collate and support the marketing of unique selling points (USPs) in relation to Urban Futures (& HEBP) and associated established partnerships
  • Write quality funding bids/ tenders on behalf of Urban Futures (& HEBP) meeting quality specifications, and highlighting best practice performance issues and USPs enabling Urban Futures to win such bids/ tenders
  • Attend meetings, workshops, events, and employment fairs which enhance the service delivery, marketing, and business development issues of Urban Futures
  • Support the compilation of business development marketing publications and periodicals which enhance the reputation of the company and support the development of new business opportunities
  • Research and develop (where relevant) new partnering structures, and organizations with complimentary activities/ services which enables Urban Futures to exploit business opportunities through partnering structures/ partnerships
  • At all times seek out and adopt good practice in developing local supply chains and brokering supply chain linkages
  • Research weekly/ monthly (as required) established portals for the advertisements of funding and business opportunities such as local authority websites, ICT tendering portals, central government department communications and other methods as may arise from time to time
  • Support Account Management functions with established Prime contractors (such as Welfare to Work Primes, SFA Colleges, etc) which may result in an extension of current contracts, or development of contracts into new areas.
  • Any other relevant tasks as may be set from time to time by either the Head of Business Development and or other relevant senior managers

Qualifications and Education Requirements

This post would suit a recent graduate (minimum of BA (Hons) 2:2) in either government, politics or other associated humanities subjects or graduates from a creative writing background.

Alternatively, candidates should have at least 1 year experience of writing economic development (particularly employment and skills background) bids either in a substantive manner or in totality.

Preferred Skills

For those that have no academic background it is preferable that they have a practitioners approach to the subject and have either delivered economic development training or services such as Information, Advice & Guidance (IAG), job brokerage, skills work, or employer engagement services.
