Mission:The mission of the Andrew Jackson Foundation is to preserve the home of Andrew Jackson, create educational opportunities, and inspire citizenship through learning about his life and unique impact on American history.

Principaldutiesandresponsibilities:TheEducatorinformsandeducatesthegeneralpublicandHermitagevisitorsaboutthelifeandimpactofAndrewJacksonthroughcoursesofferedby the Department of Education & Interpretation.TheEducatorwillbepreparedtoteachanyofTheHermitage'sHands-on-Historyclassestostudentsofvariousages,deliveringcontentinanengaging,stimulatingmanner.TheEducatorwillalsobetaskedwithinteractingwithTheHermitage'sgeneralvisitorsonaday-to-daybasisthroughthedevelopmentanddeliveryoffamily-friendlyactivitiesatvariouslocationsthroughouttheproperty.Thisemployeealsowillberequiredtohelpasneededwithadministrative and operational tasks, such as creating and maintaining educational materials and managing on-site student groups.Thispositionwillworkmainlyduringtheweek,withoccasionaleveningorweekend responsibilities.

DepartmentResponsibilities:The Hermitage’s Department of Education & Interpretation oversees and directs all interpretive-based initiatives including, but not limited to, K-12 classes and programs, standard public tours, and specialty programs as developed. The Department’s staff teachesclasses on-site,inTravelin'Classrooms,andthroughvideoconferencing. The Department also oversees educational activitiesforguestsandvisitorsontheproperty. After-hours tours are hosted occasionally throughout the year. The Department is located in the Education Center, and has significant resources at its disposal to execute all programs.

Education/training:Undergraduatedegreea minimumwithpreferenceforadegreeinAmericanhistory.Experiencewithpublicprogrammingand/orclassroomteachingispreferred. Research and writing experience will also be favored.

Experience,skills,andabilitiesrequirements:Pastexperienceineducation inanalternativeclassroomsetting.Clearverbalandwrittencommunicationskills.Excellentcustomerserviceskillsare essential,employingcourtesyanddiscretionindealingwiththepublicandotheremployees.

Musteffectivelyinteractwitha diverse audience, including audiences with a broad range of ages, ethnicities, and abilities.TheEducatormustalwayspresentaprofessionaldemeanorandappearance,andmaintainconfidentiality.Knowledgeanddailyuseofe-mail,Microsoftofficeapplications, and standard office equipmentisrequired.FamiliaritywithPreziispreferred.Someperiod-appropriatecostumingmayberequired, and will be provided by The Hermitage.

PhysicalRequirements:Abilitytoperformmoderatephysicalwork:stooping,bending,climbing,andliftingupto50 poundsunassisted;mustbeabletoworkinallweatherconditions.
