Position: Waking NightSenior Care Worker, based at The Rookery, Woodland Leeds, LS7 4PD

Hours:20 hours per week

Salary:£8.81per hour for a ten hour waking night

Reporting to:Registered Manager and Deputy Manager.

Main Purpose of the position; communicate effectively at all levels, to be able to liaise with other professionals, to follow policies and procedures, and give physical, emotional and person centred support throughout the waking night shift. Follow agreed night time routine and procedures.

The setting is a residential home for people with learning difficulties and some of the residents have some physical/sensory and communication difficulties. Part of the Waking Night role is to act as key worker to one or more service users.

Resident related responsibilities and duties

1.To support people in a person centred way, promoting independence and following and contributing to care plans especially as it relates to their night time care, including individual choice, dignity, equal opportunities, personal beliefs, safeguarding, and deprivation of liberty safeguards.

  1. To support residents in their chosen activity who have chosen to stay up later, once sleep in staff have gone to bed.
  1. To respect the individuality and dignity of each resident, listening to their wishes and preferences regarding their care.
  1. To support residents to make and manage their breakfast.
  1. To ensure significant changes in behaviour and disposition of residents are brought to the attention of the day staff, and registered manager.
  1. To support residents in all aspects of their personal care requirements, as per their care plan and wishes.

Staff and team related responsibilities and duties

  1. To attend planned staff and service user meetings and training.
  1. To liaise closely with sleep over staff during your duty period, and senior staff through established communication systems
  2. To meet with staff at the beginning and end of each shift to relay any changes, and receive information regarding residents care.
  1. To have a professional attitude and manner in all aspects of your role, and to make sure professional boundaries are adhered to at all times

Operational responsibilities and duties

  1. To be responsible for the welfare and security of residents during the night, and to take appropriate action in the event of an emergency.
  1. To be responsible for the health needs of residents during the night.
  1. To conduct housekeeping duties relevant to the running of the home, including domestic tasks.
  1. To use monitoring equipment, and report any issues.
  1. To respond to emergency situations, such as fire evacuation or hospital emergencies, advise residents in such situations in order to promote their safety and welfare, and to activate the on call system when appropriate, and to follow policies and procedures.

Administrative responsibilities and duties

  1. To receive, transmit, store and retrieve information relating to service users, health and safety information, and other information relating to the running of the home, which will include making written records of work carried out, observations made and involve using IT equipment. Records may occasionally form part of legal proceedings.
  1. To keep up to date with service user plans, and ensure all instructions and recommendations are followed, to pass on any information from health professionals who may have attended through the night which may differ from residents care plans. Pass on any changes to senior on duty at next shift.
  1. To be flexible, The Rookery is the resident’s home so changes in your duties may take place to accommodate people’s wishes and preferences.
  1. To cover holidays with prior notice and sickness at short notice taken by other Waking night staff.
  1. To follow risk assessments

To carry out tasks and activities necessary for the running of the home which are not laid down in your job description.

Successful candidates will be required to attend a Meet and Greet on Wednesday 1st November between 6pm and 7pm
