This guide details the installation ofNTP Software Storage Investigator™ Profrom an administrator’s perspective. Upon completion of the steps within this document, NTP Software Storage InvestigatorProwill be installed within your enterprise community. This guide also details the use of Storage Investigator Pro for Storage Assessments.

NTP Software Storage Investigator™ Prois a powerful, compact, Windows® application that quickly scans Windows directories, displaying information about the scanned directories. NTP Software Storage Investigator enables users to manage the disk space on their home directories effectively and easily.

This document is a guide to successful installation and setup of NTP Software Storage InvestigatorPro for Storage Assessments. It will take you about 30 minutes to complete the steps outlined here.

Requirements

This section highlights the main hardware and software requirements needed for a successful installation of NTP Software Storage Investigator Pro.

Hardware Requirements

Thehardware should be appropriate for the services running on the machine. NTP Software recommends having 1 GB free disk space

Software Requirements

NTP Software recommends the following:

Windows Server® 2003, Windows Server® 2008 or Windows Server® 2008 R2, Windows® XP, Windows® Vista, or Windows® 7.

Installation

Before starting the installation process,it is highly recommended that youverify that the installation host meets the requirements listed in the Requirements section of this document. Installation of NTP Software Storage InvestigatorProis easy. A few minutes after the end of the installation, the system will be up and running; there is no need to reboot.

Log on to your host using an account with administrator privileges.
Run the NTP Software Storage Investigator™ ProSetup file.
Inthe NTP Software Storage Investigator™ Pro Setup dialog box, click the Next button to continue.

Inthe License Agreement dialog box, selectI accept the terms of the license agreement and then click the Next button.If you do not agree to the terms, click Cancel to exit the installation.

Inthe User Information dialog box, specify your company name and the software serial number. Select the evaluation option if you are installing an evaluation version of the software. Click Next.

Inthe Choose Destination Location dialog box, browse to the desired destination or click the Next button if the default destination location is appropriate for you.

Click the Next button inthe Start Copying Files dialog box that appears (assuming that the destination paths are correct). NTP Software Storage InvestigatorProsetup begins transferring files to the specified locations. Click the Next button to proceed.

NOTE:The setup takes a few moments to configure the new software installation.

When the file installation is complete, click Finish. With this step, NTP Software Storage Investigator™ Proinstallation is complete.

Read the confirmation message carefully.

Uploading the Results of a Scan to NTP Software for Analysis

Launch Storage Investigator from your Start menu.
Select the drive you wish to scan on the left hand menu and click on the Rescan button.

Wait for the scan process to complete.
To upload the scan data to NTP Software for analysis, click on the File menu and choose Upload Results File.

Enter your name, location of the scan file results, and all other required fields.

Click on the‘Upload button. The utility will then connect via FTP protocol to the NTP Software FTP Server and upload your results file.
