POSITION TITLE: Assistant Head of School

REPORTS TO:Head of School

STAFF SUPERVISION:Administrators and Staff

POSITION OBJECTIVE:To support Chelsea School’s mission by providing staff leadership and managing the day-to-day affairs of the school’s program.

The following are functions of the position, the estimate of time spent on the function, and some of the tasks required to fulfill each function. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of the position. All employees may be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time as needed. Functions and tasks include but are not limited to the following:

PRIMARY DUTIES: Administration

  • Maintain informative and open lines if communication with parents, faculty, staff and students.
  • Oversee all aspects of student scheduling
  • Assist in scheduling of related services for students
  • Assist in defining school policy and procedures
  • Assist Director of Education (DOE) with curriculum development, Academic Fair Coordination, credit monitoring and attendance monitoring
  • Responsible for review and approval of faculty leave requests
  • Responsible for scheduling extra-duties coverage i.e. Commons, study hall, break, outdoor space, dismissal as needed
  • Coordinate School Teams: Middle Division (Lead-advisor), Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • Organize locker assignments and manage access
  • Supervise Student Support Specialist (SSS) in discipline intervention, coordination and support, coordination of detention
  • Admission committee member
  • Monitor mid-term communication, oversee scheduling of parent conferences
  • Assist in hiring, evaluation and development of staff
  • Oversee contract renewal in coordination with DOE and HOS
  • Serve as direct supervisor for the DOE, Director of Admissions (DOA), Literacy Coordinator (LC), School Nurse (SN), IT Specialist (ITS), Athletic Director (AD) and SSS.
  • Coordinate lunch programing
  • Lead the administrative team in the development and/or updating as needed for school policies and handbooks for students, faculty, and staff
  • Promote school community and culture through the oversite of Chelsea Challenge, Blue-White Competition, Teacher Appreciation Week, pot lucks and special events, schoolwide positive behavior planning, daily bulletin, celebrations, and other school culture projects.
  • Work with the PTO to promote parent involvement, support, and engagement at the school.

COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in related field and five to ten years related educational experience and/or training.

Competencies: This position requires excellent verbal, written and organizational skills. Also required is an understanding of some office procedures, the ability to cooperate with others, work as a team, politeness in dealing with other staff, teachers, students and parents. The candidate may be required to work unusual hours and work effectively under pressure.Consistent attendance is required.

Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as government regulations, safety rules and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and persuasively before groups of employees, students, parents and/or other groups in and outside of the organization.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and apply concepts to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Knowledge of MS Word word processing software, MS Excel spreadsheet software, internet software programs, and email.

Certificates and Licenses:Teaching certificate and/or related service license is preferred.
