Position Title:Programmer Analyst

Supervisor: Director, Enterprise Applications, Office of Information Technology

Classification: Administrative Management (Exempt)

The Programmer Analyst provides technical support to the campus community for a wide variety of administrative and academic applications. The Programmer Analyst creates solutions to various departments’ needs through gathering requirements, investigating alternatives, and implementing solutions. Works closely with first-tier support, providing them with documentation to handle installs and configuring purchased applications; works closely with the Application Systems Analyst to ensure the applications are installed to specifications.

Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical support for vendor and homegrown applications on client server and web based platforms after first and second tier support
  • Provides documentation to first and second tier support to resolve common issues in software.
  • Creates adequate test cases for new/existing code for large or complex projects
  • Works closely with end-users to identify application needs
  • Installs/Configures purchased applications on server and client (when necessary) platforms
  • Works with other IT experts to address networking, software, and hardware needs
  • Develops, implements, and maintains standalone programs, and subsystems on client server and web based platforms
  • Resolves end-user software issues through programming, reporting,integration, etc.
  • Provides hardware and software training to end-usersand other IT experts as needed
  • Maintains working relationships with software and hardware vendors to facilitate software updates, enhancements and problem resolution
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Minimum of threeyears experience and proficiency in the use of: programming languages such as HTML, SQL, JavaScript, and Visual Basic; relationaldatabase such as Access, MS SQL; andreport writers such as SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Minimum of three yearsexperience in requirements definition, analysis, programming, testing, and implementation
  • Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, integrating, maintaining and supporting vendor software packages, including underlying architecture
  • Able to think logically and analytically in a problem-solving environment
  • Self-reliant and able to work independently as well as being able to work as part of a team
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to continuously update personal IT & soft skills and knowledge
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies with minimal training
  • Knowledgeable in post-secondary administrative application software is a plus
