Position Title: Associate Pastor of Kalona Mennonite Church

Reports to: Lead Pastor (Scott Swartzendruber) and Elders

Date: July 2013

Position Responsibilities and Priorities

Preach the Good News of Jesus Christ

Promote Anabaptist theology

Preach approximately 50% of the time (two Sundays per month)

Assist in planning overall worship themes and observance of ordinances

Equip Ministry Leaders/Build and Nurture the Church

Identify, affirm, and release the gifts of each person involved in a ministry

Promote the vision of ministry by every member—an “equipping” church

Pastoral Care

Actively participate in pastoral care and visitation in coordination with the lead pastor

Participate in ordinances such as baptism and communion

Officiate at funerals, weddings, etc. as requested

Youth and Young Adult Ministry

Seek to coordinate the youth and young adult ministry with the other ministries of the church

Encourage a sense of belonging so that young people feel at home in our

congregation

Seek creative ways to involve youth in the worship services and other church

functions

Develop adult volunteers to help youth sponsors and perhaps become sponsorsBuild relationships with the youth and young adults

Relate to young adults away from home, such as college students and persons in

service assignments

Desirable Abilities and Qualities

Create and lead a Bible studies for church members

Serve as a resource to the adult Sunday Schoolprogram

Be involved with new membership classes

Be available for Bible studies, retreats, conventions, service trips, mission trips and social activities

Counseling

Serve as a resource to the music program

Other Pastoral Duties

Work effectively with the lead pastors, church staff, Elders, and other volunteers

Spend approximately 25 hours per week in the church office or as determined in consultation with the elders, the lead pastor, and according to guidelines in A Mennonite Polity for Ministerial Leadership

Be a member of Board of Elders

Attend Church Council and Christian Education meetings

Serve on other church committees as required

Connect with the broader Christian community

Requirements:

Masters degree in Divinity or related field (M.Div. preferred)

Affirmation of the Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective, Herald Press/Faith and Life Press 1995

Willingness to abide by the pastoral ethics as described in A Mennonite Polity for Ministerial Leadership, Herald Press 1996
