Position Title: Homeless Coordinator 1

Organization: Applications are currently being accepted for a VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) position with Community Services Council DBA Aging Matters In Brevard for placement with United Way of Brevard. United Way of Brevard is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to be Brevard’s leader in mobilizing the caring power of the community. United Way of Brevard County was started in 1957 by a group of concerned individuals who wanted to help those who were in need.

Position Description: The VISTA will be instrumental in developing initiatives to meet the priorities of the Brevard Homeless Coalition. The goal of the project is to implement the Brevard Homeless Coalition's 2012-2013 priorities, including opening a soft shelter enclave in BrevardCounty by 2013, establishing a permanent ID project to provide identification cards to homeless individuals, and enhancing BrevardCounty's Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS). Individuals who apply will commit to a year of service in which they will increase organizational capacity, develop and implement critically needed projects in the local community, and fight poverty while impacting the lives of homeless individuals. This position is full-time with a one year commitment required.

Location of Position: Brevard County, Florida is located on the East Coast of Central Florida. BrevardCounty is home to KennedySpaceCenter, Cape Canaveral, Space Coast Stadium, and miles of beautiful beaches.

Position Responsibilities: The VISTA will develop and maintain a tracking system to manage all programmatic aspects, develop collaborative partnerships with community agencies, conduct research to identify best practices to implement priorities, and research grant funding to supplement programmatic expenses for the soft shelter enclave and the permanent ID project.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • College degree
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including public speaking and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience recruiting and managing volunteers and/or experience in the non-profit sector
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office and databases
  • Valid driver’s license and personal transportation
