Position Title:Gift Advisor (Planned Giving)

Report To:Planned Giving Director

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in: planned

giving, fundraising, or financial planning. Knowledge of deferred giving vehicles,

such as trusts, insurance, etc helpful.

Experience:Must have a background in fundraising; should have knowledge of The Salvation Army and the organizations’ operations; ability to build relationships with donors and Corps Officers; must act professionally at all times; must be dependable; be loyal to and support the mission of The Salvation Army; must have a valid driver’s license; must be able to pass background check and yearly motor vehicle report to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and cultivate planned giving donors throughout assigned geographic area through personal visits, mailings, phone calls,program tours, special event contacts etc.
  • Regularly visit Professionals (Attorney’s, CPA’s, Trust Officers) to build awareness of The Salvation Army
  • Cultivate professional contacts and sponsors for annual Estate Planning & Charitable Giving Institute web-casts and seminars
  • Provide counsel to Corps Officers, Corps Development Directors and Advisory Boards for donor recognition programs such as the William Booth Society and Army of Champions, special mailings, also for fundraising activities such as Christmas kettles, capital campaigns, annual fund, direct mail and endowments etc.
  • Assist Corps Officers and Corps Development Directors with board development through personal visits, presentations, workshops, educational seminars, newsletters, creation of Advisory Teams and other ways. Also attend Board meetings and committee meetings as needed
  • Work with Donor Relation Directors(major gifts officers) in identification and cultivation of planned giving donors who may be Major Gift prospects
  • Provide counsel to Corps Officers for special events involving planned giving donors
  • Build understanding for value of direct mail process for improvement and effectiveness
  • Provide counsel for media awareness with the Divisional Community Relations Director
  • Cultivate new friends of The Salvation Army through visits and presentations to Service Clubs, Church Groups, senior Corps programs, retirement centers etc
  • Complete weekly, monthly and quarterly reports as required
  • All other duties as assigned by the Planned Giving Director or Divisional Development Director

Physical Demands/ Work Environment:

This Position is required to do light to moderate physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to remain stationary for some periods of time while in a vehicle or at the office, use hands and fingers, communicate, move, occasionally required to position self to stoop, kneel or crouch, frequently required to reach with and use arms and hands as required in using standard office equipment and a PC. Specific vision abilities by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to focus. The work environment for this position includes an office environment with a low noise level as well as frequent travel in a passenger car and occasional overnight stays.
