Position Summary
- The Faculty Associate to the Dean will provide leadership and coordination of academic programs and special initiatives administered by the GraduateCollege. The programs are principally the 14 Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs (GIDPs) and the GIDP Office, as well as current and planned centrally-coordinated graduate degrees such as professional masters programs. Special initiatives may include, among other possibilities, fundraising development, communication, and other areas covering the overall graduate enterprise at the UA. The Faculty Associate to the Dean will be a member of the Dean's management team together with the Associate and Assistant Deans.
The faculty member appointed to this position will gain an opportunity for professional and leadership development by enhancing his or her knowledge of and skills in academic administration. The Faculty Associate to the Dean will work out of the Graduate College/GIDP Office on a part-time administrative basis with a requirement for limited but established hours during a typical week. The nature of the position will enable the appointee to maintain engagement in research or teaching, modified accordingly to accommodate this appointment (similar to a department head). Because of the implications for the Faculty Associate's workload assignment in his or her home unit, a mutually agreed-upon workload plan among the relevant units will need to be developed in order to complete a successful appointment.
The Faculty Associate to the Dean will be reappointed annually, subject to budget and performance, as for all administrators. A three-year term is envisaged, enabling a rotation of individuals in the position over time. Further information on the GIDPs is available at on the PSM program at and on the GraduateCollege at Duties and Responsibilities * Work closely with the Dean to help administrate academic aspects of GIDPs and other graduate programs managed by the Graduate College, including but not necessarily limited to the items listed below.
* - Interact with GIDPAC and its chair, in parallel with the Dean and Director.
- Help promote individual programs, and help set up administration of new programs.
- Guidance and oversight of central program elements run by the GIDP office such as travel grants, temporary teaching funds, program-wide meetings, and academic program reviews.
- Administrative duties may include full or partial oversight of GIDP office staff.
- Promote and advocate for GIDPs and other academic programs in the GraduateCollege, including the advancement of diversity, proposals for new programs, assisting in the attraction of program support, and improving program coordination.
- Work with GraduateCollege and GIDP staff and leadership, as well as with the UA Foundation, on strategic and tactical development of fundraising for the college and programs.
- Liaison with GraduateCollege budget and IT staff.
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications Not applicable for this position. Additional Minimum Qualifications * Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree.
* Five years experience teaching, training and graduating doctoral students and/or graduate program administration.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skill with both small and large groups, including the ability to present the missions of interdisciplinary graduate programs to internal and external audiences.
* Demonstrated track record in fund-raising for graduate programs via private sources or public agencies.
* Must hold tenure at the UA at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor.
* A demonstrated ability to build cohesion, to be collegial, flexible, and work successfully within a team.
* Relevant administrative experience (e.g., budget, staff management, program management).
* Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity.
