Position Overview:

The Office of Housing and Residence Life (OHRL) and the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) at Rutgers University Camden believes that living in residence facilities provides the student with an amazingopportunity to experience living and immersing themselves in a learning community with their fellow students. The Resident Assistant is the most immediate link between residence hall students and the broader Rutgers-Camden community and must serve as a resource person for their students. The EOF Summer Institute Resident Assistant position was specifically created to work with incoming first year EOF students as they transition to college. The EOF Summer Institute Resident Assistant serves the EOF summer residential student population by providing summer program opportunities, safety and security for each of their residents by means of regular room and floor rounds, as well as, resources and support to all residents. There is regular scheduled duty on-call responsibilities associated with this position.

Qualifications:

  • Good academic standing (3.0 GPA and above)
  • Earned 58 or more degree credits by end of Spring 2016 semester
  • Prior Rutgers Camden RA experience not required, but preferred
  • Understanding of community living and willingness to be a role model
  • Maturity level necessary to represent the EOF department and University as a front line staff member
  • No prior or outstanding conduct sanctions, or criminal record
  • Preference will be given to EOF students in good standing

Responsibilities and Expectations:

Pre- Summer Institute Trainings/Meetings:

  1. RA’s must attend two trainings prior to the EOF Summer Institute:
  2. OHRL All Summer Residential Staff Training: TBD
  3. EOF Summer Institute Residential Assistant Training: TBD
  4. RA’s are expected to attend and participate in the EOF Summer Institute Orientation:TBD

Work Hours/Expectations:

1. During the Summer Institute, all RA’s are expected to be on duty in the dorms: Sunday-Thursdays, 8:00pm-7:00am. In addition RA’s will be expected to be on duty/working:

  1. EOF student move in weekend: Friday, 6/23/2017 Saturday, 6/24/2017& Sunday 6/25/2017
  2. Meetings one hour a week, on Mondays, with the EOF Residence Life Programming Coordinator, time TBD.
  3. Evening Programs, twice a week on Monday/Wednesdays: 7:00pm-9:00pm
  4. Weekend Duty: Weekend coverage will rotate with 2 RA’s on, 1 RA off during the 5 weeks unless otherwise noted. Weekend hours for RA’s are considered Friday from 5:00pm until Sunday 9:00pm

On - Duty Expectations:

  1. Duty Rounds of the Camden Towers will take place: Sunday – Thursday evenings.
  2. Students are required to be in the building by 11pm, Sunday-Thursday. RA’s will do their first rounds/checks of students then.
  3. Students are required to be in their rooms, by midnight, on Sunday-Thursday evenings. RA’s will do their second rounds/checks of students then.
  4. RA’s will do a final quick check of the halls at 12:30am to make sure no one is in the hallways/outside of their rooms
  5. RA’s mustwork with the Lead EOF Resident Assistant each evening after rounds to document any issues (non-urgent) via email that occurred with the students and need to be notified to the EOF Resident Life Summer Programming Coordinator .

Weekend Duty Expectations:

  1. There is no curfew on the weekends for students. However, RA’s are responsible for knowing who will and will not be staying in the dorms during the weekends, and will be accountable for any incidents that happen during that time. RA’s should be checking up on and interacting with the students who are staying in the dorms.
  1. Weekend Programs: It is expected that RA’s will have weekend programs or activities planned for students to participate in (if they choose) for those students who stay on campus during the weekends

Programming Expectations:

1. Weekly Programming will be two nights per week, Monday and Wednesdays, generally

from 7:00-9:00pm

2. Programming will be created prior to the start of the EOF Summer Institute, and must be

approved by EOF Summer Institute Residential Programing Coordinator.

3. Programming should be fun, engaging, and informative. The goal of RA programming

will be to further promote growth and development within the students, help them feel

comfortable and safe in the campus environment, and promote a sense of community

among their fellow EOF students.

Professionalism/Behavioral Expectations

  1. All RA’s will be held to the same standards that regular OHRL Residential Assistants do. Any violations of OHRL or Rutgers University Camden policies can result in immediate termination.
  1. RA’s will do their best to build strong, trusting, and positive relationships with students. However, RA’s relationships with students should also be professional, and all RA’s will be expected to maintain appropriate boundaries with students during the course of the Summer Institute.
