Position Description

Position Title: Chief Executive Officer - Permanent

The Position: The Youth Network of Tasmania is the peak body for the community youth sector in Tasmania. YNOT has input into and responds to policy direction, advocates for the youth sector and lobbies for the needs of young people especially those that are disadvantaged. An initiative of YNOT is the youth participation structure, the Tasmanian Youth Forum.

Hours: 38 hours per week
Includes occasional after hours, weekend work and travel

Award Classification: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Award Level 8

Reports To: The Executive Officer reports to the YNOT Board of Management.

Location: Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT) Office, Hobart

Role: The Chief Executive Officer is responsible to the board for the development and management of the organisation.

PRIMARY DUTIES

1.  Develop and manage the organisational infrastructure for a state-wide peak body, including:

a.  Strategic planning, service development, monitoring systems and evaluation;

b.  Selection, direction, development and supervision of staff;

c.  Development and oversight of budgets and financial systems;

d.  Resourcing and supporting the YNOT Board of Management and sub-committees;

2.  Responsibility for the organisations image and profile in the wider community.

3.  Raise awareness about the issues affecting young people in our community;

4.  Develop and maintain mechanisms that provide effective co-ordination across all levels of the Tasmanian youth sector;

5.  Coordinate the collection and dissemination of information;

6.  Develop a profile of the changing needs of young people;

7.  Identify and respond to gaps in policies and programs which address the needs of young people.

8.  Provide advice to all levels of government and the community sector about issues which impact on young people;

SELECTION CRITERIA

1.  A high level of written and verbal communication skills; including the capacity to facilitate community consultations, meetings and forums etc.

2.  Knowledge of the networks and issues that impact on young people.

3.  Demonstrated ability to critically analyse and respond to issues and initiatives that impact on young people.

4.  Understanding of community development processes and the capacity to implement them across a diverse sector.

5.  Demonstrated ability to oversee the development and management of organisational system including information technology systems and computer based accounting systems (MYOB).

6.  Ability to produce reports and submissions to a high quality.

7.  Ability to recruit, co-ordinate, direct and support staff.

8.  Ability to develop and implement effective media strategies.

Essential Requirements:

Evidence of being a holder of a current drivers licence must be provided prior to appointment to the position as the successful applicant will be required to undertake regular intrastate travel.
