Position Description

Position Title:Aquarium Security Guard

Status:Part-time

Reports to:Guest Experience Manager

Job Summary:

Aquarium Security Guards are responsible for protecting all staff, guests, animals and physical assets of the Greater Cleveland Aquarium from preventable harm and danger.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides excellent guest service and conflict resolution.
  • Makes continuous rounds throughout all public spaces of the Aquarium to ensure a safe environment.
  • Investigates any unusual activity.
  • Acts as the primary contact for security emergencies that happen during public hours or evening events and liaisons with local police when needed.
  • Acts as primary contact for the Aquarium’s security system of door alarms, silent alarms, and cameras.
  • Responds to first-aid and medical emergencies.
  • Tactfully deals with unruly guests.
  • Helps with staff development and training as it relates to safety topics.
  • Maintainsdaily security logs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Security or similar subject preferred.
  • Two years security experience required (will consider a combination of education, training and experience).

Experience in an attraction setting highly desirable.

  • Experience handling a variety of security problems including criminal or disorderly conduct, investigations, dissatisfied guests, lost person and property, injuries, accidents and fire.
  • Experience in handling crisis situationsrequiring sound judgment, quick, firm decision-making and expediting action required.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Basic computer skills required
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Must enjoy a team environment and interaction with guests
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays and periodic round the clock shifts.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and work without direct supervision.
  • Interest in learning about the Aquarium’s animals, exhibits and programs.

LICENSE & CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Must be certified in First-Aid, CPR and in AED usage.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

  • None

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires walking, standing,sitting, bending, stooping, crouching and carrying up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable talking to individuals and groups.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Requires contact with public.
  • Required to carry and use a radio, and security phone.
  • Required to wear an approved Greater Cleveland Aquarium uniform during working hours.
  • Must successfully pass a drug test, criminal background check and random drug testing
