Summer School Principal experience preferred. Plan, develop, implement, monitor, supervise and evaluate the District's Summer School Program. Knowledge of student intervention and/or remediation programs is desired.

Summer School generally runs Monday through Thursday from the first week in July through the second or third week in August. Requires planning and preparation prior to summer school as well as evaluation and reporting after summer school.
QUALIFICATIONS:

•Valid New York State School Administration Certification.

•Knowledge of the summer school program 9-12.

•Minimum of five years successful experience in education, including teaching, supervision and/or administration preferably in the area applied for.

• Demonstrated ability to:

  • Plan and implement educational programs including allocation of fiscal and human resources to maximize results;
  • Provide leadership and work effectively with staff members, colleagues, and parents;
  • Use creative problem solving and decision making skills to provide a positive learning environment for students and staff;
  • Effectively communicate, adapt and be flexible.

Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Provide effective instructional leadership for the district summer school program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: The work involves the instructional leadership of the district’s summer school programs. As the instructional leader, the Principal will be responsible for all phases of the summer school program including: designing the instructional program, selecting and hiring staff, organizing and overseeing the summer school registration process, preparing all official summer school communications to staff and the community, managing the summer school budget, working closely with principals, guidance counselors and district staff to ensure a high quality program that maximizes the student’s educational opportunities.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Student Performance – Ensure school organization, assessment and attendance procedures and materials are explained and distributed to teachers before the beginning of the summer program. Ensure assessment results accurately recorded on the Infinite Campus system. Conduct frequent classroom walkthroughs and provide feedback that simulates teacher reflection. Responsible for positive student results as reflected in the final building summary.

• School Design –Facilitate successful enrollment and scheduling of the students by collaborating with counselors, special education case managers, ELL coordinator and office personnel. Plan and conduct an organizational meeting for summer staff. Organize and implement a Positive Behavioral Support system.

• Customer Satisfaction – Plan and implement strategies designed to communicate scheduling and program expectations to parents and students. Distribute parent and staff survey information and submit results at the completion of the summer program. Responsible for positive survey results as reflected in the final building summary.

• Financial Management – Oversee the site budget and manage the local purchasing process. Maintain accurate financial records and account for any discrepancies. Manage payroll and submit required forms to ensure timely, accurate payment of employees. Responsible for maintaining accurate student attendance records.

• School Operations – Select staff for the summer site and notify Human Resources personnel in a timely manner. Obtain verification from the District’s Human Resources office that all employees hired for the summer program satisfactorily complete a background check, fingerprint check and possess current, appropriate certification. Complete all core data and student attendance information accurately and submit by the required dates. Monitor enrollment numbers and adjust staffing as necessary. Submit all required documents to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction at the end of the program.
