POSITION SUMMARY – Deposit Operations Specialist

Verifies and processes daily transactions for financial, merchant, savings, checking, credit card, safe deposit boxes and IRA accounts. Assures daily ATM transactions are processed on a timely basis. Conducts research to answer internal and external questions concerning bank accounts and transactions. Remains up-to-date concerning the Bank’s operating system and supports other operational areas as needed.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge: The equivalent of a high school diploma is required. General accounting courses or a degree in accounting strongly preferred. Knowledge of balancing techniques is essential. Knowledge of bookkeeping and reconciling in financial institutions desired. Knowledge of credit card laws and regulations would be an asset.

Experience: A minimum of one year experience in accounting or bookkeeping function is necessary. Prior experience with general ledger account reconciliation is strongly desired. Previous experience in deposit operations function of a financial institution would be helpful. Experience performing mathematical calculations is essential.

Skills: Proficient keyboard, accounting, balancing and PC skills are required. Basic word processing, spreadsheet, accounting and Internet skills are required. Must have the ability to communicate professionally with internal and external customers. The ability to organize tasks and set priorities is necessary.

Physical Demands/Work Environment: Must have the ability to work the hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled. Vision, hearing, dexterity, and speech are required. Other normal office-related physical demands may be necessary including the ability to tolerate noise.

Mental Demands: Must have the ability to listen, reason, think, concentrate and interact with others. The ability to exercise self-control and work under stressful conditions is necessary. Must have the ability to collect data and conduct research to solve deposit-related problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides assistance in the bank operations area to resolve problems. Supplies information to various areas of the Bank to answer operational questions.
  • Sets up and maintains selected operational department functions. Assures the functions are operating efficiently. Answers questions concerning those functions and makes changes and corrections as necessary.
  • Verifies and balances new accounts and various other operational functions. Researches and corrects out of balance conditions when necessary.
  • Conducts audits of programs and services on a regular schedule. Reports findings to management and external auditors when applicable.
  • Balance General Ledger accounts, teller cash reports and records. Researches and corrects out-of-balance conditions as they occur. Reviews and reports on error trends.
  • Provides operational assistance and support to branch personnel as needed.
  • Prints and distributes checks, notices and payouts as requested after verification of funds has occurred.
  • Posts refunds to customer accounts for Bank charges when appropriate. Ensures refunds are applicable, appropriate and properly authorized.
  • Ensures research and/or subpoena requests are properly documented and completed accurately in a timely manner.
  • Scans and records bank documents in the proper format and assures they are saved according to government regulations and Bank policies.
  • Provides professional and timely service to customers concerning account maintenance and/or other operational services.
  • Remains knowledgeable concerning the Bank’s products and services and their operational specifics.
  • Participates in required training and has the responsibility for following regulatory requirements including those pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP), and OFAC to assist in the identification, detection and determent of money laundering or other unlawful activities.
