The Department of ______strives to be innovative and discipline-leading in the three dimensions of scholarship: research, education, and service. In all scholarly endeavors, our values center on the concept of making impacts that are distinctive, recognized, and enduring. In that context, general responsibilities and expectations of all faculty members in the department include:

  • Setting high standards of professional and ethical conduct, and contributing to a diverse, collegial, and respectful environment.
  • Participating in departmental shared governance, meetings, and discussions.
  • Making lasting impacts in the education of students and in the faculty member’s chosen area of scholarship.

Furthermore, the general expectation for your time allocation during the academic year includes:

Research – ##% with duties that include:

  • Making a lasting impact at the highest level in research, with findings disseminated through scholarly publications, presentations, patents, adoption of new discoveries and technologies, and other manifestations of scholarship as recognized by peers external to ISU.
  • Mentoring and developing a group of undergraduates, graduate students, and post-docs as best suited to the needs of the faculty member’s research enterprise.
  • Developing and maintaining a research program with support from external sources at a level that is necessary for the program to thrive and be impactful.

Teaching – ##% with duties that include:

  • Teaching on-average ## courses per academic year
  • Providing a superior education to our students through instruction in undergraduate and graduate courses, and through innovations that continuously renew and improve classroom, hands-on, and one-on-one learning experience.

Service – ##% with duties that include:

  • Advising the ISU student section of _____
  • Participating in activities, governance, and campus life at the department, college, and university levels, and leading transformative programs and initiatives.
  • Participating in activities and service to advance the profession and broaden the faculty member’s and department’s impact, and fostering activities that lead to leadership positions.
  • Filling prominent national leadership roles and being recognized within the profession as a source of technical innovation and independent expertise.
