Position: Director of Communication and Membership

Club Overview:

Michigan Shores Club has a long history of being the center of social, dining and athletic activity for families on the North Shore of Chicago. Members enjoy an active platform tennis program, a state-of- the-art fitness facility with personal training, and an indoor pool. The club has several distinctive member dining venues and numerous private event spaces accommodating both intimate and large events. Over $3.5M has been spent over the past few years on refurbishing and expanding the club, including a very popular outdoor deck and patio ding area overlooking Lake Michigan. The club is financially stable with a two-year wait list and further future capital plans.

Summary:

Develop and implement programs, projects and activities designed to increase and retain membership in the club. Represent the club in its relationship with numerous external constituencies, in particular the local community. Moreover, coordinate the development of and produce the club’s newsletter and other internal and external written communications. Assist management in the development and distribution of all member communications including online emails, website, and social media.

Job Duties:

Maintains the club’s database of member files

Develops and assures that established procedures for processing prospective members’ applications are consistently followed

In concert with the Membership Committee, plans and implements strategies to meet club membership goals

Develops, implements and coordinates new member orientation program and year-long “on boarding”

Promotes club activities using table tents, newsletter, direct mail, email, club website, targeted emails, social media and other means deemed appropriate

Monitors current member usage to identify “at risk” members whose club usage has dropped and suggest events and programs that could engage them

Processes member resignation, including arranging exit interviews to determine reasons for leaving

Maintains and manages an ongoing prospect list for membership and engages prospects approximately once a quarter

Keeps abreast of the latest trends in private clubs and is a member and participates in the Private Club Marketing Association (PCMA)

Conducts tours of prospective members, answers questions and keeps the Membership Committee abreast of prospects

Visible to the membership at the most appropriate times, i.e., high traffic times and at club sponsored events

Provides input to the management team with regard to club activities, events and programs based on following member usage through the club’s database

Attends and participates in management/staff meetings

Effectively responds to member comments and feedback and communicates these to the management team for appropriate action

Assists in the development of department budget and continually monitors and takes corrective action as needed

Communicates all membership programs, incentives and initiatives to staff

Completes all necessary paperwork, application, dues and fees collection prior to Board approval of an applicant and follows up with appropriate departments upon acceptance

Interacts with local community leaders and organizations to market the club in the community

Develops and directs effective and attractive communication pieces for written and electronic mediums including composition, design and printing

Continually enhances the Michigan Shores Club website and social media presence

Assures the timely distribution and updates of all communications including club website and marketing collateral

Qualifications:

A four-year degree from an accredited university, three years’ experiencein sales and/or communication. Member of PCMA is a plus.A highly organized individual with excellent communications skills, verbal and written. An excellent understanding of creating and managing technologies and social media.
