POSITION LOCATION / Moreton Bay Birali Steiner School is currently operating from the Beachmere Community Hall. MBBSS is now in it’s fourth year of operation with classes Prep to 5 five in a combination of both single and composite classes. We are a small but growing school with a very enthusiastic and experienced staff body working on bringing the vision of the school into fruition.
KEY ROLE RELATIONSHIPS / -The Principal
- Teaching, support staff and volunteers
- Studentsand their parents
GENERAL DUTIES / The position of the Wellbeing Officer/Chaplain is funded by the National Chaplaincy Program and as such is contingent on the availability of that funding.
The role of the Wellbeing Officer/Chaplain is to work with teaching staff towards ensuring a safe and nurturing environment is created for the students at MBBSS.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / Student Wellbeing: The Wellbeing Officer would work with the Principal and teaching staff in the development, implementation and review of a suitable Wellbeing Policy and Procedure for all students within the school.
Parental Communication: Where necessary and appropriate, to liaise with parents regarding their child’s wellbeing. This may include attendance at class meetings.
Referrals: Where necessary, refer students to appropriate wellbeing services beyond the school.
Staff Wellbeing: Where necessary, work with staff to develop and review documents pertaining to staff wellbeing and parent/staff relationships.
Compliance: Maintain a satisfactory level of understanding of state and federal compliance obligations for student wellbeing within independent schools.
Reporting: Report to class teachers and the Principal where necessary and appropriate on the wellbeing of students in their care.
AWARD LEVEL / This role will come under the Modern Award Educational Services (School) General Staff Award 2010. The Classification, or Level, within this award will be determined by the level of skills, training and experience of the successful applicant.
WAGES / Moreton Bay Birali Steiner School currently pays substantially above the requirements of the above award.
TIME FRACTION / It is expected the the successful applicant will be on an equivalent full time load of 0.16 to 0.2.

Key Selection Criteria – Wellbeing Officer

The successful applicant will need to address the following selection criteria:
  • Understanding and appreciation of Anthroposophy and Steiner Education,

  • Ability to work in a diverse organisation with all stakeholders including teaching and non-teaching staff, students and parents,

  • Demonstrated communication skills both written and verbal,

  • Relevant skills, training and experience in wellbeing and counselling,

  • Understanding of the role of wellbeing staff within a school environment, including the relevant legislation and an understanding of the referral process,

  • Ability to work with the principal and to provide written reports where necessary.
