Purpose of the Role
The Charge Anaesthetic Technician will provide clinical leadership and coordination of the anaesthetic technician service while ensuring efficient, effective and safe service delivery within available resources, and in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
The Charge Anaesthetic Technician is responsible for the service delivery of anaesthetic technician operational functions, quality and financial performance, human resource management and quality and risk management and accreditation.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required
Essential Criteria
  • New Zealand Registered Anaesthetic Technician with significant post registration experience in a clinical role
  • Current Annual Practising Certificate
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with all staff levels and disciplines.

Service coordination and finance management /
  • Manage service in accordance with operational plan and budget

  • Actively participate in the preparation of service activity plans
  • Liaise with anaesthetic department and service manager to plan required CAPEX expenditure

  • Identify and facilitate projects to improve efficiency and effectiveness of service provision
  • Ensure appropriate and timely consultation with the wider clinical team on clinical issues.

Staff management and planning /

  • Model sound HR practice and facilitate coaching and performance development for staff in consultation with professional leader and manager
  • Ensure effective recruitment, orientation, mentoring, rostering and administration of staff in accordance with SDHB policies

  • Proactively plan and implement appropriate staffing aligned with planned service provision
  • Ensure there is a process in place for timely staff appraisal, and that feedback structures are in place.

  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness in rostering and payroll transactions in compliance with SDHB rostering standards
