POSITION STATUS / Permanent / full/parT-time / Full Time
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
To establish and maintain a research and publication programme.
To plan and deliver research-led teaching in key accountable areas defined below.
To carry out administrative and service tasks.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESULTS/STANDARDS EXPECTED
Teaching / ·  To plan and deliver teaching in urban land economics, property development, governance and public policy development for the urban planning programmes.
·  To contribute to the teaching of quantitative and qualitative skills in the professional urban planning programmes and other subjects where relevant.
·  To contribute towards studio-based teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
·  To contribute to the supervision of postgraduate students.
Research / ·  To develop and maintain a research and publication programme in the area of specialisation.
Community and University Service / ·  To carry out service and administrative tasks in the School, Faculty and University.
·  To establish and maintain appropriate relationships with relevant professional and community organisations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES
Qualifications / Essential
Applicants must hold a professionally recognised qualification in urban planning or planning and have a PhD (or be close to completion).
Preferred
Professional membership NZPI or PIA, or AICP, CIP, or RTPI.
Experience / Essential
·  Demonstrated experience in research.
·  Experience in tertiary level teaching.
·  Excellent written and verbal skills.
·  An ability to interact positively with academic and professional staff and deal efficiently with the administrative tasks associated with the position.
Preferred
·  Experience in the practice of urban planning in local government, central government and/or private practice would be an advantage.
Technical Skills and Knowledge / Essential
·  A sound understanding of contemporary urban land economics theory and practices in urban planning contexts.
Preferred
·  An understanding of urban quantitative and qualitative methodologies and their applications.
·  An understanding of studio-based teaching.
Attributes and Skills / Essential
·  Conversancy with contemporary knowledge and practice in the specialist area sought.
·  Well-developed management, communication skills and interpersonal skills.
·  Ability to work as part of a team and to work independently.
·  Flexibility and willingness to engage in activities that support the Urban Planning Programmes.
·  Ability to meet deadlines.
·  Ability to manage change.
·  Creative thinking.

Candidates who successfully reach the final stages of the selection process for this role will be required to undergo police / criminal convictions screening screening. A satisfactory report from the relevant agency will be a condition of employment.
