INTRODUCTION
Eltham High School is a large and busy state secondary school. This position is part of the busy administration team where staff supports other team members particularly during extremely busy periods. The occupant is requiredto maintain confidentiality and to have an ability to work effectively at times with high volume workloads.
The School is conscious of maintaining a safe work environment for staff, students and visitors. It is incumbent upon all staff to maintain their work area in a safe condition.
The position is part timeover 5 days per week and is ongoing(48/52). The position is covered by the provisions of the Victorian Government Schools – School Services Officers Agreement, 2004 and its successors.
NATURE OF THE ROLE
The School Support position is primarily responsible for a range of activities however the prime role is concerned with the many aspects of student attendance. The officer will provide specialist support to achieve specific outcomes. They may be required to modify work practices and procedures to achieve outcomes. As part of the school administration team the occupant may be required to act temporarily in other positions within the school.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The School Support officerworks under the general supervision of the Finance Manager and is accountable to the Business Manager.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
There are a number of specific roles associated with this position. Specifically they are;
Student Attendance
- Organise and manage role marking activities
- Maintain student attendance data base including data entry, changing/updating information as received from time to time from various sources
- Provide reports to sub-schools, staff and the leadership team concerning absences, reports and other pertinent information
- Provide assistance to teachers on how to input information or produce & interpret reports
- Assist sub-schools with student attendance including follow-up with parents and students
- Ensure that the integrity of the data base is maintained, and that it is regularly backed up.
General Duties
- Coordinate duty student activities
- Assist the Registrar with enteringstart of year new student enrolment information in databases
- Ensure that up to date timetables are distributed throughout the school
- Assist with student census
- Assist sub-schools withthe preparation of various activities including; subject selections, student reporting, photocopying, NAPLAN,parent information nights, Valedictory and other like school activities etc
- Work in conjunction with the Cashier and others to maintain accurate information on student activities (eg change of subjects, student exits, camps & excursions etc)
- Provide administrative support dutiesto the general office
- Produce minutes for PSG meetings
- Perform other duties appropriate to the position that may arise from time to time
First Aid
- Provide backup support to the first aid attendant
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Current Level II First Aid certificate

- demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise relevant to the position including, but not limited to high skill levelin word processing, desk top publishing and other applications
- demonstrated capacity to provide advice and support to management in respect to the specified role
- demonstrated commitment to professional learning and growth
