Position: County Youth ProgramCoordinator
Job Description: The County Youth Coordinator (CYC) will work in a team relationship to provide day to day leadership and management for Linn County 4-H/Youth programs.
Primary Duties:
Position Objectives
- Connect Iowa State University Extension and Outreach to Linn County youth through 4-H priority topics of STEM, healthy living, citizenship and leadership and communication and the arts
- Evolve our programs to reflect changes in youth and society so youth remain actively engaged through a continuum of experiences (short and long-term) Delivery methods may include afterschool/out of school time, Clover Kids, 4-H Clubs, STEM programming, camps, workshops etc. for 4-H members and potential members.
- Develop partnerships with schools, youth organizations and agencies, businesses, and individuals to deliver high quality curriculum developed by ISU Extension, other Land Grant Universities and the National 4-H organization.
Program Management
- Maintain appropriate records and prepare reports as required (monthly reports, 4-H Statistical, 4-H publications, etc.)
- Volunteer leadership and engagementincluding organize and maintain volunteer management system (ISOTURE). Organize volunteer training, direct and support volunteers, youth committee and project committees in conducting assigned tasks; recognize and evaluate contributions of volunteers, youth committee and project committees.
- Plan and organize Linn County Fair activities as they relate to the K-12 Outreach program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: weigh-in of all species, updating and distribution of fair book, securing judges, recruiting volunteers, coordinating judging events, recording fair results, premium calculations, ordering ribbons/trophies, coordinating transportation of state fair exhibits and engaging the Fair Leadership Team in completing tasks.as well as engaging the Fair Leadership Team in completing tasks.
- Other 4-H events to plan and facilitate will include (but are not limited to) Share The Fun/Awards program, Volunteer Recognition, Fashion Revue/Clothing Selection, Communications, National 4-H Week, Food Safety Quality Assurance, Camps, Lock-Ins, etc.
- Order necessary materials and supplies in a timely manner
- Recruit youth and volunteers, promote and implement K-12 Outreach activities. Examples may include: Clover Kids, 4-H Lego Teams, Summer Discovery, etc.
- Collaborate with 4-H Youth Development Program Specialists and County Director to implement programs in Linn County
- Participate in Region 10 Youth Team meetings and regional 4-H events.
Communication and Member Client Support
- Maintain correspondence with 4-H members, volunteers, Extension support staff and the public, including newsletters, news releases, and written correspondence. Create ways to provide support to new families and volunteers
- Implement all 4-H programs using statewide policies and assist with sharing with volunteers and partners
- Schedule and facilitate meetings with County Youth Council, committees, club leaders, and liaison between Extension and Fair board
- Coordinate all forms and correspondence for area and state events and opportunities such as State Conference, Area Awards selection, State Fair, area camps and trip
- Contribute to social media presence through posts, and news releases, etc.
Professional Development
- Attend county, area, and state training as required and needed. Coordinate training for youth and volunteers as needed
Skills and qualifications:
- Associate Degree plus 2 years of experience, orBachelor’s Degree (preferred) plus 1 year experience.
- Experience with 4-H preferred
- Previous experience working with youth and volunteers
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere but also self-motivated, able to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
- Effective problem solving skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
- Computer literacy required (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Publisher, and social networking. (FileMaker Pro a plus)
- Good communication skills, written and verbal
- Valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle with proof of vehicle liability coverage (Travel expense will be reimbursed)
- Ability to lift 20 lbs.
Terms of Employment:
- Full-time position, hourly rate starting at $15/hr. Wage based on experience and education;4month probation period
- Flexibility to work nights and weekends, as required for meetings or events.
