ISES Review & Revision Period – Impact on the 2012-13 School Report Card

November 8, 2012

Introduction

This fall DPI released the new School Report Cards. The report cards represent accountability reporting for each school for the 2011-12 school year and include an overall accountability score and rating. The report cards use data collected through the WSAS and the ISES data collections. DPI uses these achievement, enrollment, and demographic data to calculate accountability scores.

What is the connection between the ISES data collection and the report cards?

Since ISES data is one of the primary building blocks of the School Report Card, the accuracy of your school’s ISES submission is critical. For example:

  • Attendance and absenteeism are components of the new accountability system. Schools must ensure their attendance data is properly reported to DPI. As part of the School Report Card review period, many schools found their local student information system is not reporting attendance data to DPI as intended. As such, we urge you to review attendance data with the School Report Card in mind.
  • Test participation is calculated on all enrolled students. Schools need to verify enrollment status.
  • Subgroup performance is reported throughout the School Report Card. Verification of student demographics is critical to ensuring an accurate student count for accountability purposes.

When can we fix data errors?

The ISES Review & Revision Period runs November 5-28, 2012. ISES Coordinators should work with their District Assessment Coordinators (DACs) and ELL Coordinators to confirm the data are accurate. This is an opportunity for schools and districts to correct their data before it is publicly reported on WINSS, in WISEdash, and in next year’s report card. Schools will have a chance to review their testing data when the WSAS review period opens January 9-18, 2013. These reviews are conducted in the Record Editing System (RES). District assessment coordinators will be notified of the RES process in advance.

How will I know if there are data errors?

DPI has built checks into the ISES system that allow us to notify schools of possible issues with their data as it relates to the School Report Card and future accountability calculations. You may see these specific warning messages in ISES. Additionally, DPI provides specific guidance to schools about possible issues with their data submissions. We encourage all schools to review these messages and their ISES submission carefully and in consultation with the staff listed above so that data reported on the 2012-13 School Report Card is an accurate reflection of your school’s data.

Who can help us with the ISES review period?

DPI has a HelpDesk to which questions can be submitted. Call us at 800-507-5744.
