Position Announcement - Vice President for Development
The Iowa College Foundation invites applications for the position of Vice President for Development. The Vice President will report directly to the President and work closely with the Vice President of Administration, a Board of Governors,and volunteers committed to furthering the mission and goals of the Iowa College Foundation.
About the Iowa College Foundation
The primary purpose of the Iowa College Foundation is to provide students the opportunity for a high-quality education by securing financial resources for our member private colleges and universities to use on their behalf.
The Iowa College Foundation (ICF) was founded in 1952, with able assistance from the Iowa business community, to annually solicit unified support for private higher education in the state. ICF is the only organization in Iowa through which businesses can support 23 private colleges and universities with a single gift. The Board of Governors consists of 23 private college presidents and 35 business leaders from around the state. The ICF office is located in Des Moines, Iowa.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Vice President for Development
- Develop and manage 24annual area campaigns throughout the state
- Lead regional training sessions for the development professionals from ICF’s member colleges assigned to assist with ICF area campaigns
- Recruit and maintain area chairs for each area campaign
- Provide leadership in identifying, cultivating and soliciting, corporate, foundation, and individual donors to ICF
- Work with staff, volunteers and board members to create and execute fundraising plans for donors and prospective donors
- Represent ICF at public functions and events, including professional and social gatherings
- Develop and provide a one-day training session aimed at orientation of new development professionals employed at ICF’s member institutions
- Write clear and compelling grant requests and speak effectively to a variety of public audiences
- Develop annual goals and work within clearly defined accountability
- Perform additional duties as assigned by ICF’s President
- This position requires extensive weekday travel throughout the state of Iowa
Qualifications
A strong work ethic, personal integrity, excellent communication skills and leadership capabilities are important characteristics for this position. A bachelor’s degree is required and a master’s degree is preferred.
Candidates should have held senior positions at independent colleges or universities, college consortia, foundations that support higher education initiatives, or other organizations connected to higher education. A minimum of ten years of experience as a senior level advancement professional in higher education is desired.
The successful candidate will display a record of leadership and accomplishment in the field of development, and will have a proven track record of fundraising success, especially in major gift development and solicitations. This position requires an individual that understands relational fundraising and has the ability to convincingly articulate needs and goals that motivate potential donors to make gifts. To be considered, candidates must demonstrate an aptitude and willingness to build and maintain an effective development program at the Iowa College Foundation.
