POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Student Affairs Specialist, Campus Life

  • This is a full-time position
  • Employment is with Chattahoochee Technical College and not with an individual campus. All employees are subject to work relocation based on college needs.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Student Affairs Specialist, Campus Life reports to the Campus Life Coordinator and is responsible for student activities programming – including proposing programs, program preparation and development, vendor and contract negotiation, requisition processing, program setup and teardown, and other tasks associated with providing student engagement opportunities on all campuses of the college. The Student Affairs Specialist, Campus Life is one member of the Student Engagement team, participating in and assisting with events in various areas within and beyond the Campus Life department, to include, but not be limited to: Student Activities, Clubs and Organizations, Athletics, Career Services, Support Services, Orientations, and Commencement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

•Bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field of the position and sufficient experience to

understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, or

Associate’s Degree with two years of paid work experience in Student Affairs/Campus Life, or

Four years of paid work experience in Student Affairs/Campus Life.

•Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or

equipment operated.

Student Affairs Specialist, Campus Life SA/40

Student Affairs FLSA Status:Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

The Student Affairs Specialist, Campus Life reports to the Campus Life Coordinator and is responsible for student activities programming – including proposing programs, program preparation and development, vendor and contract negotiation, requisition processing, program setup and teardown, and other tasks associated with providing student engagement opportunities on all campuses of the college. The Student Affairs Specialist, Campus Life is one member of the Student Engagement team, participating in and assisting with events in various areas within and beyond the Campus Life department, to include, but not be limited to: Student Activities, Clubs and Organizations, Athletics, Career Services, Support Services, Orientations, and Commencement.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Plans and develops the educational, entertainment, social & co-curricular programs and events offered by Campus Life
  • Implements programs and events offered by Campus Life
  • Promotes and markets the educational, entertainment, social & co-curricular programs and events offered by Campus Life; includes creating physical flyers, banners, etc. as well as virtual publications and communications utilizing web technologies and social media
  • Responsible for purchasing process; including working with vendors, originating purchase requisitions, receiving and verifying goods and services, and tracking expenses related to budget
  • Hosts and “runs” student events as necessary
  • Maintains relationships with departments, vendors and community partners
  • Answers student inquiries from any source, to include but is not limited to: email,phone calls, and social media
  • May advise student groups
  • Operates under a flexible schedule to ensure direct involvement with activities scheduled for both day and evening students; may also include weekend events
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of current trends in programs and services provided to students through student activities
  • Knowledge of contract terms and conditions and current policies and procedures
  • Skill in researching talent agencies to schedule events and programs
  • Knowledge of Office suite, particularly Microsoft Publisher, Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving
  • Skill in oral and written communication – including grammar, spelling, marketing, graphic design, etc.
  • Knowledge of department and college policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of related state and federal regulations
  • Skill to work cooperatively with community leaders, students, faculty and staff
  • Skill to make timely decisions
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The supervisorassigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include the State Board of Technical and Adult Education Policy and Procedures Manual, Chattahoochee Technical College policies and procedures,Campus Life policies and procedures, and applicable federal and state legislation, policy and guidelines. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied specializedduties. The variety of tasks to be managed contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to provide specialized support for campus life functions. Success in this position contributes to the retention of students and the efficient and effective operation of campus programs.

  • Contacts are typically with students, faculty, staff, college administrators, and members of the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to motivate or influence persons, to resolve problems, to give or exchange information, or to provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
  • The work is typically performed in an office.
