MINIMUM CREDITS FOR DEGREE128(See Note 4 below)

MINIMUM UPPER DIVISION REQUIRED (300+) 48(See Note 4 below)

Note 1: Internships

The purpose of an internship is to provide the student with the opportunity to culminate theory and application in a learning environment. Internships must be taken very seriously and serve as a valuable learning experience. All internship sites must be pre-approved and coordinated with the Internship Coordinator. During the semester prior to performing your internship, the student needs to make an appointment with the Internship Coordinator and complete a comprehensive internship packet. Internships are to be performed at the completion of all coursework typically during their last semester. In certain situations, an internship can be split into two separate six (6) hour sections.

Note 2: Physical, Occupational Therapy, Physicians Assistant, Chiropractic Medicine, Medical School and other Graduate Programs

Students intending to pursue graduate work in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Chiropractic Medicine, Medicine or any other specialized allied health as well as those interested in general academic graduate programs (e.g. Master’s Degree), need to research pre-requisite coursework as well as other specific institutional requirements (e.g. GRE, GMAT, minimal GPA). Every graduate program and institution has their own individual requirements; therefore the sooner a student finds out about requirements, the sooner an academic plan can be implemented. Further questions can be answered by the Department Head or Departmental Kinesiology Advisor.

Note 3: Upper Division Courses:

Kinesiology Degree Plan Students must maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher to enroll in upper division courses in the department of HPDR.

Note 4: Graduation Requirements

Students must complete 48 hours of upper division (300+ level) course work to be eligible for graduation. In addition, students must complete all required coursework and achieve a minimum of 128 total semester credits to be eligible for graduation. The College of Education requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 for graduation and a minimum grade of “C” in all Kinesiology Core and Gerontology requirements (including electives).

Information about the Kinesiology Program or employment opportunities may be obtained by contacting the Program Director or Department Head located in the Activity Center 204. {Phone 646-2215}.

This degree plan is designed to meet all of the NMSU general education requirements listed in the undergraduate catalog. However, if a course substitution is granted for this degree plan, be aware that it might not apply to another program (e.g. minor). Please see your advisor for assistance.
