POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:

FUND DEVELOPMENT, MARKETING AND PUBLIC INFORMATION COORDINATOR

The Greater Madison Jazz Consortium (GMJC) seeks a talented professional to serve as its first Fund Development, Marketing and Public Information Coordinator. GMJC is a coalition of presenting organizations, educational institutions, supportive media, and individuals working to create a more vibrant and sustainable local jazz scene. Founded in October 2012, GMJC incorporated as a Wisconsin nonprofit in September 2013 and was granted 501(c)(3) status in September 2014. Our goals, current programs and activities, and planned initiatives appear at the end of this announcement. To date, our support has come mainly from grants, comprising 82% of our roughly $122,200 operating budget. With our budget currently projected to grow to about $140,000 next year, we are now embarking on a systematic effort to develop a diversified and sustainable base of support.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Hours: Half-Time (average of 20 hours/week, with flexible scheduling likely to include some evening and weekend work)

Status: Independent Contractor (not an employee)

Compensation: $20,000/year (secured through 9/30/15, with continuation beyond that depending on availability of funds)

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

This position is responsible for the effective planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of all GMJC fundraising, marketing and public information efforts. In the area of fundraising, the position will focus on development and implementation of an effective annual giving and major gifts program. In the area of Marketing and Public Information, the position will focus on communicating GMJC’s initiatives, plans, needs, and impact to current and prospective supporters, including key community stakeholder segments (e.g., jazz musicians, music venues, educators, and fans), while amplifying the marketing efforts of the Consortium’s partner organizations.

This position will collaborate as needed with GMJC’s Musician-Led Projects Coordinator, Venue Development Coordinator, Nonprofit Partnerships Coordinator, K-8 Guest Artist Program Coordinator, and Event Coordinator (all of whom are part-time) and GMJC’s grants development coordinator (a volunteer).

RESPONSIBILITIES

·  Conceive, plan and implement short- and long-range fundraising, marketing and public information programs

·  Identify and research potential sources of individual, business, foundation, and community organization support

·  Develop and implement suitable approaches and strategies for donor/sponsor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship

·  Coordinate communications with current and prospective donors and sponsors, including preparation of compelling written materials

·  Coordinate and support the work of volunteers involved in fundraising on behalf of GMJC

·  Coordinate preparation of fundraising and marketing materials and reports

·  Acknowledge all gifts and pledges and develop appropriate donor recognition programs

·  Prepare and manage the annual fundraising budget

·  Maintain electronic records of current and prospective donors and sponsors, including giving history, proposals, and biographical information

·  Prepare appropriate reports for the Board and donors/sponsors

·  Plan and implement strategies for communicating and promoting the work of the Consortium

·  Develop and implement marketing partnerships with kindred organizations aimed at achieving Consortium goals for creating a more vibrant and sustainable local jazz scene

·  Collaborate with other GMJC contracted staff to maintain awareness of Jazz Consortium programs and initiatives for which financial support is needed

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following characteristics, while the successful applicant will possess the best mix of these characteristics.

·  Successful Practice

o  Minimum of 3 years experience in developing and directing successful nonprofit fundraising programs and campaigns

o  Prior success in major donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship

o  Prior success in marketing the work and impact of nonprofit organizations to community stakeholders and (current and prospective) supporters

·  Professional Skills and Knowledge

o  Demonstrated marketing and public information skills, including the ability to secure favorable coverage from print and electronic media

o  Expertise in developing strategic messaging documents, talking points, and related tools for use by Consortium board, contracted staff, and volunteers

o  Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with people

o  Outstanding written and oral communication skills

o  Demonstrated ability to work effectively with top corporate executives and professionals

o  Expertise in use of social media

o  Strong skills in donor database management

·  Personal Attributes

o  Demonstrated ability to work effectively with volunteers, committees and boards

o  Demonstrated ability to be self-directed in work and collaborate effectively in a team setting

o  High degree of professionalism, sensitivity and integrity

o  Familiarity with, and passion for, jazz music
