HEREBY ENTER INTO ANAGREEMENT FOR AN INTERNATIONAL JOINT SUPERVISION OF DOCTORAL THESIS

The following undersigned and qualified parties, on the one side, UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE PELOTAS, a foundation of public law created by decree-law no. 750/1969, inscribed in the incorporate roll of tax payers (CNPJ) under number no. 92.242.080/0001-00, with its headquarters located on Rua Gomes Carneiro, nº 01, Centro, Pelotas, RS, Brazil, hereinafter referred to as UFPel, in this act represented by the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, Professor Dr ______, and, on other side, ______(complete qualification), represented by ______, have mutually agreed,in accordance with the applicable laws, rules and regulations in force in each of their respective countries and Institutions, to enter this agreement for an international joint supervision of doctoral thesis under the following terms and conditions:

ARTICLE ONE - OBJECT

The object of the present agreement is to establish a basis for cooperation under which the PhD student Mr/Ms ______, bearer of identity card no. ______from the Graduate Program in ______, shall carry out his/her thesis of expected title “______” under a system of joint supervision of the signatory institutions.

ARTICLE TWO – SCHEDULE AND PLACE OF THE ACTIVITIES TO BE DEVELOPED

The PhD student shall remain ______months at UFPel and ______months at ______.

ARTICLE THREE – AGREEMENT MANAGEMENT AND CANDIDATE SUPERVISION

3.1 The coordinators of this agreement, responsible for monitoring and controlling theinherent worksto this understanding, shall also be the professors in charge ofsupervising/advising the Doctoral thesis both at UFPel and at the foreign counterpart institution.

3.2 At UFPel, the doctoral thesis will be supervised/advised by Professor Dr. ______and at ______by Professor Dr. ______, whocommit to fully perform their duties as advising professors of their candidates.

ARTICLE IV – INHERENT CONDITIONS TO THE JOINT SUPERVISION

4.1 PhD candidates must have health insurance in the countries involved in this agreement, proving their beneficiary status with the agreeing institutions.

4.2 The doctoral thesis shall have a single defense at one of the agreeing institutions andbe recognized by both, complying with the regulations in force at the Graduate Program of the institution where the defense will take place.

4.3 The thesis under joint supervision shall be written and defended in Portuguese or ______(inform the language). Regardless of the language chosen by the candidate, the thesis must present an extended abstract written in the language not covered by the writing in the thesis.

4.4 The Examining Committee shall be appointed by mutual agreement between the agreeing institutions and shall be formed by five full members, among which the doctoral advisorsmust be included.

4.5 Both institutions undertake to acknowledge the validity of the joint supervision carried out and of the thesis defended, awarding the successful PhD candidate a joint doctorate diploma.

4.6 The copyright of the subject matter of the thesis and the results obtained by the candidate's research shall be ensured by both graduate programs involved in the joint supervision, in compliance with the specific procedures of each country.

4.7 Doctoral students shall be exempted from paying fees at the agreeing institutions, always respecting the principle of reciprocity.

ARTICLE V – EFFECTIVENESS OF THIS AGREEMENT

Considering that the estimated deadline for the development and defense of the doctoral thesis is ______, this instrument shall remain in force initially for a period of ______from the date of its signing and may be extended by Addendum if necessary

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, both parties sign this agreement in five (5) counterparts of identical content and form both in Portuguese and in ______(inform language).
