Pop Culture and Psychology

For your end of the year assignment, you will tie in an aspect of pop culture to a topic we have discussed during the school year.

Your assignment is to complete the following:

  1. You are to choose a facet of psychology that you wish to explore more deeply and create a power-point demonstrating your research.
  1. You are to find an episode (no longer than 25 minutes) that supports the component of psychology you are researching
  1. You will do a presentation in the class, which will include your power-point and an analysis of the episode you have chosen. You will then show the class the episode you have chosen.

Guidelines:

~You may work in groups of 3-4 people

~Once a topic is chosen, you need to tell me as well as the episode you are using to support your topic in order to avoid duplications

******TOPICS AND EPISODES WILL BE DESIGNATED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS*******

Content:

For this portion of the assignment, you will be expected to do a thorough investigation into your topic as well as an analysis of the episode you have chosen. You are to go above and beyond what has been discussed in class and what is in your textbook. The power point should include the following elements in regards to your topic:

  1. Brief history
  2. Current knowledge/research
  3. Expectations for the future/where is it going
  4. New developments on the horizon
  5. Old theories being questioned in light of new research
  6. Major players (psychologists) involved in research
  7. Analysis of episode in regards to how it relates to your topic

Format of the power point:

  1. At least 10-15 slides
  2. MLA citations for research and visuals (pictures0
  3. Appropriate grammar and spelling
  4. Cohesive, thought out structure, easy flow of information

Sources:

You must use no less than 4 sources, 2 of which must be books beyond your textbook. The other sources may be articles from periodicals or a valid website. BE CAREFUL WHEN USING THE INTERNET!!!!!!!!!!!!! For each website cited in your paper, you must complete a website evaluation checklist. FYI: Wikipedia is not a reliable source for this assignment, don’t use it.
