A. Course Objectives
The course objective is to initiate the student in the domain of the overland communication ways,particulary the highways and the traffic engineering. It aims at providing general technical practical knowledges about the traffic characteristics,prognosis and analisys,also about the particularities of the highways design, construction,maintenance and exploitation .
B. COURSE TOPICS
Introduction (2 hours): General notions about highways. Traffic definition
.Particularities about the highways design,construction ,exploitation (6 hours) : Plan axis of highways;Longitudinal and cross profile; Highways traffic knots;Elaboration of the highwaysprograms; Road systems and adjacent buildings..
Characteristcs of the traffic (2 hours): Intensity,law character, repartition, variation, traffic speed.
Study of the traffic (4 hours): Organization of the traffic studies;Analisys and prognosis of the traffic;Mathematical models foranalisys and prognosis.
C. APPLICATION TOPICS
Determination of the traffic characteristics(2hours).Plan axis, curves connection,longitudinal profile,cross profile of highways. (8 hours).Traffic knots design (4hours).
D. EDUCATIONAL METHODS EMPLOYED
· Course: lecturing, conversation, explication, demonstration
· Practical works: explication, example, experiment, simulation, problematisation
E. Evaluation procedure
Distributive evaluation composed of two written tests after 7th week and 14th week; each test contains two theoretical subject(1hour): 60% of the final grade
Homeworks and in-class evaluations during the term: 40% of the final grade
