PolicyTitle: Public Policy Workshop Scholarship

Policy: VAND will award up to two scholarships annually (as funds are available) to help attend the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) Public Policy Workshop. Scholarships will be given to the strongest applicants that demonstrate a strong interest in public policy. All VAND members are invited to apply, including students.

Rationale: Public policy is an important part of our profession as it promotes employment opportunities for dietitians across all settings of the field. The Public Policy Workshop educates attendees on the nutrition policies that affect our profession and how dietitians are well suited to speak to legislators to gain political support of nutrition legislation. Participants will leave the workshop with knowledge and skills needed to advocate for nutrition policy and promotion on a state and federal level.

Procedures:

  1. When funds are available, up to two scholarships will be awarded annually.
  1. Qualifications for Winner:

a) Must be a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Vermont Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

b) Must submit application, resume and a signed letter of reference

c) Award must be used toward travel expenses associated with the Public Policy Workshop.

  1. Deadline for application: Variable. Dates for the Public Policy Workshop change on a yearly basis. The scholarship application is to be posted 4 months before start of the Public Policy Workshop.
  1. Scholarship winner will be notified in writing of their award.
  1. Recipients of the award are expected to share their experience at the workshop with VAND members. Method of sharing to be determined annually by the VAND Board of Directors.

Funding:

  1. Funds for the Public Policy Workshop are part of the VAND operating budget. The recipients are able to use all or part of the Public Policy budget for the current fiscal year.
  2. Recipients must adhere to VAND expenses and reimbursement policies. (Find VAND’s Policies & Procedures HERE)

Note: Do not submit additional materials. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered; no exceptions will be made.

No application materials will be returned. You are encouraged to keep a copy for your own record.

Notification of award will be sent to all applicants by April 15.
