Scheduling Guidelines
- You may sign up to use the Research or Conference side for full class periods. Please see Mrs. Moore when you sign up and describe the research project so that she can prepare any materials you need. Teacher-Librarian Collaboration forms are available to help you plan your library needs.
- Please sign up for Research side if your students need access to the computers; please use the Conference side when you just need books or need space for presentations or films.
- Please schedule your classes in person and not through a student or through email; this will help us guarantee you get the space and time you need.
- Substitutes may not bring classes to the LMC.
- Please do not schedule a class to use the LMC more than 4 days in a row.
The library schedule will be posted on email each day by 7:35. If no one has scheduled the LMC for a class for a given period, you may send a small group of no more than 5 students to do research independently. All students should have a signed agenda; please state your permission and check AUPs if you want the students to log on to the internet. Remind them to sign in when they enter the library and sign out when they leave; this is their proof that they made it to the library.
If you are using the LMC 6th period, please return to your classroom by 2:20.
Library Pass/Agenda
Individual students will not be admitted to the LMC without a signed agenda. Students should sign in and out at the circulation desk.
Students are not permitted to visit the LMC during lunch unless they have a signed agenda from their 4th period teacher and are working on an assignment or reading. If classes are using the library 4th period, individual students will not be permitted at all.
Aides/peer tutors are not permitted to hang out in the LMC. They will also need a signed agenda and a purpose for coming to the library.
Equipment/Books
Library Science students will deliver and pick up large pieces of equipment, such as POWs, COWs, and TV carts. Please allow the first 5 minutes of the class period for students to deliver items. Also, please finish with the equipment 10 minutes before the end of the period/day to allow for pickup. You are responsible for picking up and returning small equipment such as video cameras, digital cameras, DVD/VCRs, etc. Please return small equipment by the end of the day you are signed up to finish with the equipment.
Please come to the LMC in person to sign up for equipment. This is the best way for you to make sure you get what you need when you need it. Sign up in advance for POWs, COWs, SmartBoards, and TV carts as there are limited quantities of these pieces. Students will not be permitted to leave with books or equipment checked out in your name if you have not signed up for them. If you are in a bind and need to send a student down to check out equipment or books, please call 412 and tell Mrs. Moore or Mrs. Pugh that the student has your permission to remove items from the library and to check these items out in your name.
Videos
The LMC cannot check videos out to students. If you would like a student to use a video for a class, please come to the LMC in person and check the video out in your name. If you need a student to pick up a video, please call 412.
Fax Machine
A fax machine with long distance and 1-800 capability is available for teacher use. Due to the high volume of faxes received and sent daily, we ask that you do not use the fax line for phone calls. The fax number for the library machine is 960-0360.

Copiers
New teachers should see Mrs. Pugh for a copier number and copier orientation ASAP. Library Science students are available to help run copies. Remember that current Library Science students who have been trained will be the only students permitted to use the copiers. Non-library aides or peer tutors are not permitted to use the copiers, so please do not ask them to run copies for you. We monitor our own students’ use of the machines and ensure proper use of codes and copier care.
Please take note of these important guidelines if you wish Library Science students to run your copies:
- Always attach a Copy Request Form to your originals. Make sure it is filled out completely to ensure accuracy. You will receive blank forms at the beginning of the year and can request more at any time.
- Allow up to 3 days turn-around time for your orders. Due to high volume and to be fair to those who dropped off before you, copies cannot always be run immediately. If you need them right away, please do them yourself.
- Your requests should be copy-ready. The students may struggle if you need originals enlarged, shrunk, contrasted, etc.
Research Assistance, Technology Assistance, and Other Tools
Technology changes almost daily, and the tools we have to help you and your students changes just as rapidly. We are happy to help you plan research lessons and to help you keep up with all the different presentation and multimedia technologies available to you. See Mrs. Moore or a Library Science student for help with research or technology.
