General Specification –Flange Isolation Kit - Gasket with “Quad” Rectangular Seal Element - For Flanged Pipeline Systems - Water Market

Effective: 3/12/12

General Application Description:Materials for sealing gaskets on pipes containing water, wastewater and aqueous fluids (up to 302ºF, 150ºC) shall be manufactured of the following components:

Sealing/Isolating Gasket

One full faced isolating and sealing gasket (Fits over bolt holes), POINTGUARD™ Type "E", 1/8" thick, G10 retainer containing a precision incline-plane groove to accommodate the controlled compression of a EPDM quad-ring sealing element. Sealing element placement shall accommodate either flat, raised face or RTJ flanges. The G10 retainer shall have 750 volts/mil dielectric strength and a minimum 65,000 psi compressive strength. The full faced flange sealing/isolating gasket shall be 1/8" less in I.D. than the I.D. of the flange (unless specified by end user) in which it is installed.

If the parameters above do not meet your application needs, consider using the FLOWGUARD or COREGUARD Sealing/Isolation Gaskets manufactured by 3-FLOW, Inc.

Full Length Sleeves – For Isolating Bolts

A full length G10 sleeve with a wall thickness of 1/32” (0.79mm) passing through both steel washers for each bolt/stud. The G10 sleeve shall have a dielectric strength of 750 volts/mil and water absorption of 0.05%

Washers – Double Set

Two 1/8”” (3.2mm) thick G10 isolating washers for each bolt/stud. Compressive strength shall be 65,000 psi – dielectric strength of 750 volts/mil – water absorption of 0.05%. Two zinc plated (ZP) washers are needed for each bolt/stud. Isolating and steel washers shall have the same O.D. and I.D. and fit over the full length sleeve.

Quality

Gaskets shall be manufactured at a facility that has an internal quality management system. Submittals shall include a copy of manual, if required by end user. Gaskets shall be A.R.R.A Compliant and 100% made in U.S.A.

Availability

Gaskets shall be manufactured by 3-Flow, Inc.in U.S.A.and can be purchased through authorized stocking distributors.Central Plastics, Equal or alternate products should be submitted to an engineer or end user 14 days prior to bid date.

Performance suitability and material compatibility shall be determined by the user.

Note: For an economical solution and temperature (up to 220ºF, 104ºC), end user can specify a Nitrile quad-seal sealing element and Phenolic retainer (500 volts/mil – compression strength of 25,000 psi). Sleeves shall be Mylar, have a dielectric strength of 1100 volts/mil and water absorption of 0.8%, with Phenolic isolating washers.
