  1. One way to get back to the originally working window is to Start Menu  Settings


 System (Tab)  Memory  Running Programs

 Select Program  Then Click Activate

  1. Another option would be to download a program (i.e. Magic Button) applies a taskbar menu at the top that shows each application that is open. This program will actually end the program by click the [X] unlike when normally it stays open.

  2. One way of importing music is while device is connected and after syncing the device, on ActiveSync menu Select Explore. This will bring up the folder for the device. The user can now drag and drop music into the folder or select Storage card folder and do the same.

  1. Another way is when the ActiveSync creates the desktop folder the user can open this even if the device is not connect drag and drop music into this folder and then next time device is synced the music files will be added to the device.
  1. When the user drag and drops the music files into either folder it will take the original file so the user should create a copy if they want to keep an original file. The device will convert the computer music files to become compatible with the device.

  1. What are the possible ways to import the documents from the phone onto a laptop, can we import part of the data or do we have to import all? (ex. Can I choose to only import my SMS messages without importing my pictures onto my computer?)
  1. One way to import docs from phone to laptop is to sync both devices and then all docs on device will transfer to laptop.
  2. Another way is if the laptop has infrared (IR) it should pick up there is a device with IR near it and then the user can beam docs by pressing and holding

-Right soft click, select New Speed Dial  If Name already exists you can link to contact in the first box

-If it is a new contact you can give a label as the name then fill in the number of which one you would like.

-If the user uses a number that already exists the phone will overwrite the current number in that slot.

-To apply the picture you will have to have already added the photo to the contact and when you select the Link box you pick which one contact you like.

-If there is a photo you have a radio button option to choose the “Picture Speed Dial” which will then displays the picture as a thumbnail above the speed dial button without pictures.

-When the user selects the picture as a speed dial button it will display a screen explaining the conversion of the picture into a speed dial button and where it will appear

  1. How to download more games onto the phone? Is it possible? What are the most popular games that should be put with the windows mobile 5.0?
  2. To actually download games onto the phone the user needs to download the setup files on the computer first.
  3. If the mobile device is already connected to the computer the download will begin automatically on the device but if not then the next time the user syncs the device is when the application will download to the device.
  1. The device will prompt a message verifying that the user indeed wants to install the program.
  2. After the application downloads on the computer a window will display telling the user to check their mobile device to see if there are additional instructions to follow.
  3. After the software finishes downloading on the mobile device a message screen will come up saying that it has successfully downloaded (1). If there was not enough memory then it will display a screen saying that the device does not have enough memory and the user has a choice to continue to download the software anyway(2). When the device indeed runs out of space an error message comes up (3). This is bad because the software has used up most of the devices memory and since there was no software install there is no way to remove the application to retrieve the memory used up.

  3. The user can switch to Keyboard by selecting the middle icon between the two soft keys.
  4. With this active the user can use the stylus to tap in each letter instead of using the handheld keyboard.
  5. Block Recognizer
  6. Select Block Recognizer from the middle menu pop-up.
  7. This lets the user write instead of type in letters and number into the appropriate boxes. Left section is used for letters while numbers should be inputted on the right section.
  1. There is only one way to write each letter and symbol. It will capital the first letter of the word after each sentence but the user would have to manual turn that off if they choose they do not want that.
  2. If the user is unsure how to write a specific letter, they can click on the [ ? ] to have a demo of any letter or symbol.

  3. There are three sections for different letters and numbers. The first box is for uppercase letters, second box is the lowercase letters, and third box is for numbers.

  3. A handwriting recognition program that allows the user to write in cursive, print, or a combination of both.
  4. Transcriber works transparently in the background of programs, recognizing words with its integrated dictionary.
  5. When Transcriber is turned on, it interprets stylus movement anywhere on the screen as handwriting input.

  2. After using the emulator and the Treo 700w it seems that there is no Zip program on either to unzip files.
  3. The user would have to download a program (i.e. HandyZip) and install it onto the device in order to unzip files that are on the device.

  2. Today screen can be customized by Selecting Start then Settings, the click on the Today icon.
  3. The first contains different themes that the user can choose from. The Windows Default cannot be deleted from device. The user has a choice if they want a picture as a background on the today screen.

  2. File Explorer is used just like the desktop version to search files on the device. To access it the user goes to Start then Programs then selects File Explorer.
  3. The File Explorer will open the last place the user was looking but using the new device emulator it will default opening “My Documents”
  1. Different applications store files in the “My Documents” folder by default unless specifically indicated by the user to save in a different folder.
  2. Mobile File Explorer does the basic functions of the desktop version. (Delete, Cut, Copy, create folders, etc…)
  3. The folder that is created on the computer desktop is the “My Documents” folder on the device so any files put into this folder will be filed under the “My Documents” folder.

  2. One way the user can control the sounds and notifications would be under Start  Settings  Sounds and Notifications.
  3. The first screen is the where the user can set when the sounds should be active.
  4. The Notification tab is used to determine which sounds the user wants to use for each event.
  1. The user can also convert an audio or video file into a sound they want as a notification if they choose. This feature is not on the emulator but is possible on the phone.

  3. Word Mobile has much of the same basic features as the desktop version. It has the basic toolbar the same but only certain features are chosen.
  1. The Menu button is similar to the File option in desktop Word; there are many options that are the same but only a few are chosen.
  2. The View is named the same as the desktop version, but only a few options can be chosen as well.
  1. All Word documents from the users desktop can be converted into Word Mobile documents and vice versa. The files can be send back and forth over synchronization or infrared ray (IR),

  2. Excel Mobile can be reached through Start  Programs
  3. Just like Word Mobile, Excel Mobile is similar to the desktop version of Excel with just the basic functions.
  1. The menu option just like Word Mobile is similar to the desktop version except only a few actions are chosen to save memory.
  2. The View button has a few more options that Word Mobile but still less than the desktop version.
  1. Most formulas from the desktop version will work on the Mobile version.
  2. All Excel documents from the users desktop can be converted into Excel Mobile documents and vice versa. The files can be sent back and forth through synchronization or IR.

  2. Settings Program contains all the applications the help the user manage the device.
  3. The three tabs (Personal, System, and Connections) contain applications that have specific information about the device that cannot be found anywhere else.
  1. There are two resets that can be done if an error occurs on the users’ device. (Soft and Hard reset) Soft reset is just a restart of the phone, no data will be lost. Hard reset will erase all personal information such as appointments,contacts, and tasks, as well as programs you have added, such as thirdpartysoftware on the device.
  2. Never do a Hard reset until a Soft reset is done.
